Hmmm. Good idea. Anyhow, I must reevaluate the usage of remembering network drives van one session to another. The most important ones are already bookmarked.nikos wrote:that's what trade-offs are all about
why don't you save a folder group (Customize) with your network drives and put it on a toolbar icon, then you can reinstate them quickly at work

Hail the almighty sea-faring pirate Nikos and all his loyal X2 mateys!
I have a lifetime portable license. Do I download one of the installs listed up on the update links or do I need Nikos to send me an upgraded portable .exe?
Cheers and you won't see me around the Northern African coast anytime soon!

stereobit, i guess translations won't see the new resizable mass rename dialog, they were not updated from v1.71
JonBoy, sadly there's no such thing as portable lifetime licence, the lifetime contract you have (?) is only for the main program. As portable versions are hand built every time, you get 3 for each $10 you pay. Send me an email if you want yours upgraded
finally wrt color coding optimization, try this one:
www.zabkat.com/xplorer2_UC.7z
it turns off optimizations in list mode but only if you leave max list column width setting (Tools > Options > WIndow > View) unconstrained. If you set it to a value, even big one, then you should have the best of both worlds

1.7.2.1 fixes my filename truncation issue.
I have max list column width set to zero... if I set any value I get the truncation back... I tried several values from 500 to 1000000 (million).
Out of curiosity, is there a maximum value for this?
BTW if anyone plays around with this, once you set a value other that zero you will have to restart x2 to reset it to zero... set back to zero and then restart.

Based on what you said, it's very easy to misconstrue this fact with the online ordering. I specifically bought X2 because of the features and equally important for me, the ability to remain portable. When ordering X2, I clicked the portable version details which does state the 2-3 (estimated) compile limitation. I also read the lifetime details which does not specifically state that lifetime option does not apply to portable version. Other than the trial version I downloaded to test X2’s features, I have only used the portable .exe orig. sent to me.nikos wrote:JonBoy, sadly there's no such thing as portable lifetime licence, the lifetime contract you have (?) is only for the main program. Just want to make my point heard and try to be fair about it. My intent is not to start a debate nor a fight. I don't want you to get hosed after reading the release notes and how you could use more money for continued development and motivational factors for something that was an oversight in the order details. The lifetime details on the order site (clicking the question mark) needs to be updated to reflect this fact to prevent future confusion regarding the portable version.
Not asking for a refund on the lifetime option because I want to see X2 to continue to grow..........but I honestly thought I was buying the lifetime option to take care of the 2-3 compile limitation. Not sure if a compromise could be made for the few who may be in my situation?

Then change the lifetime purchase details to reflect that. Currently it could easily be mistaken that portables are covered when they are NOT covered.nikos wrote:look, the reasoning is that portable editions are "hand made" for each customer, and involve extra overhead, I believe that $10 for 3 builds is fair for you and me
I'll deal with the limited upgrades, but prevent others from having this problem in thinking they are covered when not.
Simple and done.

Hi Nikos, nikos wrote:does the new compromise 1721 work for everybody?
Version 1.7.2.1 works fine for me if I don’t use “bold face” to “color-code” filenames. For example, even though it contains 130 characters, this filename does not get truncated with italics:
“What do all those funny marks, like the dots between the words in my document, and the square bullets in the left margin, mean.mht”
Note that I have set “Max list column width” to “99999999”. Without this value, screen rendering was at least twice slower than previously in version 1.7.2.0 (I use “List View” almost exclusively).
Now if I use “bold face” to “color-code” filenames, it does not matter whether “Max list column width” is set to “99999999” or to 0, or to any other value that I tested, the above filename gets truncated to “What do all those funny marks, like the ...” (down to 39 characters).
So I don’t see much point in the latest version. The bolded filenames are still truncated...

Right. I stand corrected. I did not realize I had to restart xplorer2 for the changes in “Max list column width” to become effective.
But all things being equal (i.e. with “Max list column width” set to 0), the longer file lists are still drawn much faster if I don’t use bolding to color-code filenames...
