How to remove automatic folder opening with x2?

Post by billou31 »

When installing the newest version of x2 lite, one is asked whether one wants to have x2 replace Windows Explorer, whenever one clicks on a folder or drive icon. I chose yes, thinking why not.

Now I'm sorry I did that. Although I like X2, and it definitely has many advantages over Windows Explorer, it is much slower to start. Therefore, although I would still want to use x2 when I would like to (and I have created a Windows hotkey to start it very easily), I do not want it to open whenever I click on a folder or drive in My Computer, a folder shortcut on my desktop, etc. I would like to go back to the default Windows Explorer for that, and just use x2 when I want to.

Well, it was very easy to click that box to have all clicks on folders and drives open with x2, on installation. The problem is---I see no way to reverse it, and go back to default!! What is easy to change one way, should be easily reversible, to go back to the default setting. But I looked in x2 options, even tried the settings editor, but see no way to do that. (Hint--you really should make that setting easy to change, from the Options dialogue.)

How do I set it back to default?

(PS--another suggestion--I don't know if it's possible, but it would be nice if x2 would open faster.)

The first suggestion in that blog--uninstall and reinstall!

Wouldn't it be much simpler to have a setting in the options dialogue, to set it back to default folder opening? If a reboot would be needed afterwards, OK.

Why is it simple to set x2 as default folder opening (in installation), then so difficult to change back, that one has to uninstall and reinstall?

That's why there's a second suggestion:
run the registry script that it references.

No uninstall/reinstall involved. ;)
