Re: Firefox okay again

Thanks.  I had an insta**nder.com search url that was not working.  it had been bugging me for ages!  using your tip worked (searched for insta** in about:config, right-clicked on it, chose reset...)

Searched for search.conduit.com in Firefox's about:config and reset each entry to its default. That cleared this up. :D

It's understandable that you're trying to get a little extra cash, but I for one is sad to see x^2 bundling with a toolbar. I've often decided to stay away from toolbar-bundling software, since it seems dodgy to me... it's a shame having a superior product like x^2 associated with this kind of stuff.

But at least it's only in the lite version and it's optional.

if you'd asked me a month ago i would probably be embarassed distributing this toolbar. For reasons I explained in the referenced blog article, I now find it really sweet! I plan to actively promote it, although I won't go as far as bundling it with the professional version. It's not just about dollar$

I had not bothered to read it carefully before the discussion here, but the x2 toolbar blog page should be updated to something more complete, like:
How to remove the toolbar
If you don't share my entusiasm for xplorer² toolbar you can uninstall it from Internet Explorer using the standard windows add/remove programs applet from Control Panel. You don't have to uninstall xplorer² (the file manager); there is a separate uninstall entry for the toolbar. To disable the toolbar from IE without uninstalling it use the Tools > Manage add-ons menu command in Internet Explorer.   To uninstall the toolbar from Firefox use the Tools > Add-ons menu.  You may also need to reset your home and default search pages to eliminate all traces of xplorer² toolbar.

Toolbar

Post by niteowlalways »

I'd have no objection to this toolbar if there were an option to NOT install it at the time of installation.  I will no longer be using this program, nor will I be recommending it or the Pro version because of this.  Installation of any toolbar should always be optional for the user.   Most of us who are security conscious will not install any software that forces the installation of a toolbar.  It's just not a good security practice.

I've been told by someone who downloaded this in the past that there is an option to to not install, however, in the version I downloaded today there was no opt out tic box.  I always check as I never install bundled toolbars.

The current version (lite) downloaded from the main website clearly presents this:

The Professional version has no included toolbar at all.

Downloading software from sites other than it's own is also not good security practice.

This is great and has REAL potential

EDIT--I just noticed today that when i do a search using the X2 toolbar, all of the sponsored links are now on the left side--FAIL. That doesn't make me want to click on sponsored links. It simply annoys me. Please don't do that.

It would be nice to be able to add more this to the bar, not just notepad and calculator. How about Open Office stuff, Winamp, and what ever else we want, like a browse button for programs? Man I like this toolbar. I hate all other bars I've tried, but this rocks. I really love the get webmail and notify option. Really nice.

The weather is nice too. Some more ideas about useful components.

(1) Allow us to browse to a program to add it.
--CPUID
--CoreTemp
(2) Launch Programs like START MENU or actually have the start menu optionally embedded in your toolbar.

Make it so we can do everything we do with Windows start right on your tool bar, or at least have the options for quicklinks:
--Restart
--Shutdown
--Display: C:\Windows\System32\control.exe desk.cpl,,3
--Manage Computer
--Control Panel
--Manage Computer
--EVERYTHING!

In other words, move all the start menu stuff (option to move which we want) to YOUR toolbar. Everything in one spot.

WINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Password Integration

Post by dwdallam »

Another thing I think needs to be done is to integrate the mail options with the Firefox (at least) Master Password. In other words, before you can use the toolbar's get mail function, you first have to type in the Firefox master password.

the way it is now, if anyone stole your computer, they could cause a lot of damage having instant access to your emails. As you know, you only have to type in the Firefox Master Password ONE time per session.

Very insecure the way it is now.

that is a good idea but as the toolbar is for all people who may not even use firefox it would be very hard to implement.
