Selection and moving of files

Selection for drag & drop. In XP this was simple, you highlighted the items and moved them. However, in Vista it's different. The selection area is apparently pre-determined and reaches from column to column regardless of the file name length. It is impossivle to select all the left most columns to move thim. Is this unique to Vista? Or is there a setting that controls this. BTY the options on XP and Vista are identical. Thanks, Walt

Please indicate what view style(s) are affected, and what vista theme/'color scheme' you are using (Aero, standard, basic, classic, etc.).
(I use x2 details view almost exclusively and Windows classic theme and have not seen what you report, and I would rather neither guess nor go hunting. )

this can be affected by a few things; your setting for "full row selection" (Tools > Options > WIndow > View) and if it still doesn't solve your problem then try to "switch off some vista effects" from the gui registry settings editor (see in the installation folder) to make your lists look more like they did in XP

Thanks for the responses. Changing the themes to Windows Classic solved my problem. Walt
