End Task xplorer2_CommPort
Randomly, when I shutdown (or reboot) Win XP SP3 I get 1 or more Windows End Task messages for xplorer2_CommPort. At times I have to force the task(s) to close. I haven't found a pattern for this except it seems to be related to network (mapped) drive access. I have seen 1 or more xplorer_UC.exe processes after xplorer2 is exited (which cause the End Task(s) when I shutdown). My version is 1.7.2.3.

I have upgraded to version 1726 and the problem still exists. Additional information: the problem occurs when I have the Contents column enabled and I view a folder that contains Acronis backup image files (.tib). If I remove the Contents column and view the same Acronis folder, xplorer2 will close cleanly without orphaning it's process.

If the user has the mouse in his hand, it is the most convenient way for exiting x2 to click the close button in the top right corner (and not using the keyboard shortcut Alt-x).
Following nikos latest reply I suggest to provide a toolbar icon for exiting x2 by simulating the alt-x keypress.
This would have the additional advantage, that you can close all open x2 windows (if there are more than 1) with a single click and without the need, to go the cumbersome way via the file menu.

My suggestion has nothing to do with the explorer replacement mode; in fact I do not use this. And another fact is, that this CommPort problem is not new. This happened unreproducible since I use x2.nikos wrote:terminating and staying resident is for your own good! if you don't want it then use the registry editor to disable this feature, as explained in another post
If closing x2 by Alt-x instead of alt-f4 (= Close button) is the solution (that's how I understand nikos) the suggested close icon for the toolbar is obviously the most easily doable solution.
And even without this problem this icon has the already said (I don't get it, how this could be mixed with the resident feature) advantages.

Why stay resident?
Just wondering what the "own good" is? I guess it is to respond quicker when opening folders/drives, but x2 seems to load just as quick now I have disabled resident mode, as it did before when it was resident. From what I have read it doesn't replace the file dialogs, but I may well be wrong.nikos wrote:terminating and staying resident is for your own good! if you don't want it then use the registry editor to disable this feature, as explained in another post
I haven't selected "open all filesystem folders with explorer" during install yet, as I have it set as the default association for directories in the registry. I found directories worked better than folders and drives during earlier releases, and just haven't changed (think it was because they include virtual folders like my documents and folders may not, can't remember). I may need to re-install and try the "open all filesystem folders with explorer" option. I was also put off by the big warning about not selecting the "use a seperate single-pane window for integration".
Cheers
