Any way to get E2 to become default file explorer?

Post by prr »

I would like to use Explorer2 as my default file browser. That is, when I go to the Start menu and click on the My Documents link, I'd like my Documents folder to come up in E2. Is there any way for this to happen? If not, I can simply put a link to E2 in my start menu, but I also use Launchy a lot and would love to see this integrated with Windows. I'm using Vista.  I did look in the help file but didn't see anything.

i'm not sure if "My documents" from start menu will do it but you can make xplorer2 the default folder application for most other folders if you tick the "replace explorer" box during installation, see this FAQ C1:

AFAIK "my documents" is a special folder, so the old registry tweak is needed for it.

OK I'll give it a shot later on in the week.

BTW--I said E2, I really have E2lite. Not sure if that makes a difference with the installation option or not.

Instead of uninstalling and reinstalling, I just installed the same version of E2Lite over the previous one. Yes that window came up offering to make E2 the default file browser for system files. It retained all of my settings, and when I use Launchy to open up folders, it does so with E2 (even with My Documents, which is a separate folder on its own partition)! Thanks for letting me know how to do this.

How can I undo making xplorer open for default applications

Post by shawnhevel »

During installation I check the box to open all filesystem folders in xplorer2.  I would like to now undo this feature.  What is the best way to accomplish this?

Thanks.

Wouldn't it be easier if there was an option to turn this off and on instead of uninstalling the software and reinstalling it.  I had a heck of a time getting all my settings to work on a 64-bit machine.

That option exists in recent Pro versions [1.8.x], under
Tools | Options | Advanced

Sweet.  I do have Pro and downloaded the latest version.  I found the checkbox and unchecked it.  Everything works.  Thanks for the info.
