most of the times you enter a zipfolder it will show up in the tree if you synchronize with it (Alt+T) or if you have your tree auto=sync with your active folder

well most of the time they don't show, unless you get into them
as zips are technically folders what the tree is doing is correct

obihal,
You didn't name your OS.
If it is XP, then zipfiles do not show in the tee
... (except when you are in one).
In win7, however, they are listed in the tree pane. :(
Like you, I would like to not see them listed in the tree pane in w7.

nikos,
Can this be fixed so w7 tree pane behaves as XP tree pane does?

Mh, not quite.

In the past I found several times the ZIPs showing in the tree pane (XP SP3). I am not sure about the condition, when this appears, but it seemed to me, as if this would happen, if I open a folder on a CD / DVD (without ever touching the ZIPs itself). If this happens (and probably there are several ZIPs in a folder) the needed time for displaying the tree pane is tremendously slow (whereas WE was quick).

@ ...I am not sure about the condition...
I don't recall ever seeing zipfiles in the tree on XP except when viewing on in a folder pane.

I suppose many folks want to see them as folders all the time, based on MS moving to treat them that way.  However I'd rather have them treated as the files they are.  Or at least have a user option for it.

Fred, can you do me a favor and test it: Insert a data cd/dvd with zip files in any folder and open this folder in x2 (preferably with an xp system, if you have) and tell me, if you see the zips in the tree pane (as we are just about this). Thanks in advance.

Thomas,
You are right about zipfiles on CD showing in the x2 tree pane in XP.
(I had to  borrow an XP machine to check, as mine is in storage.)
But they don't show on HDDs nor on portable thumb drives.
Even though they anomalously show on CD's, I would still prefer x2 on w7 to behave the same as it did on XP. Even better would be to not show CD zipfiles in the tree, but I'll be happy with a partial solution.

Another bad part of this problem  folders and zips ara in alphabetic  order.
A (folder)
a.zip
B (folder
b.zip

i have one folder which have a lot folders and zips.  solve this by putting ___'s in front of folders (_A)  :)    This dont happen to zip files on the desktop. They are shown at the end of folders.

Fred, thank you for testing.

@Nikos:
I found this problem about a year ago, when I had to rebuild my system because of a motherboard-change. I had previously saved all my installers and zip-files (a really great number) on dvd and had to take them afterwards from there. And it got a real great problem, because opening any folder on the dvd with ZIPs inside (the very most of them) took ages, as x2 seemed not only to list the ZIPs in the tree pane but also to read the content of all of them (although not opened).

If I opened the folders with WE instead, all run smoothly. As my machine was not online at that time I was not able to report it and forgot the problem afterwards. This thread reminded me about this behavior.

Questions: Is this intentional and why? Can you change / fix this?

i'm sure the delay is caused trying to figure out if the zipfolders have subfolders (show the + sign or not)

i am looking into it

The issue has nothing to do with delay.
It is a request to NOT show zip-files in the tree under Vista and w7 (like current XP).

The side-anomaly that they do show in the tree for files on CDs and DVDs under XP is not the main issue.

Sorry, that I occupied the threat for the XP CD-drive anomaly. But perhaps there is a coherence between this and the Vista 1 / 2 behavior?
