Assign folders specific views

Is it already possible, or will it be possible in the future, to assign certain folders to open in a specific view?
e.g. Generally I use "List" view for my file management, i.e the majority of my folders, however whenever I open "My Pictures" folder I would prefer it to open automatically in "Thumbnails" (as in Windows Explorer) to view the pictures. At present I have to manually change the setting from List to Thumbnails every time I open the folder. Would it be possible to automatically assign certain folders to open in a specific view?

there's a plan to use desktop.ini for per-folder settings, including view style, column selection and sort preferences
