Since when does a 128kb executable zip down to a 62.9kb archive? You been using your voodoo again? Executables were always worse than video files for compression, as bit-wise they usually look like gobbledegook to pattern-matchers.

(WinRAR compresses it to 59.5kb, without the readme, in case you wanted to stick that in your pipe and smoke it. "8,589 billion gigabytes can't be wrong.")

HTML documents are the devil's spawn, you know that, don't you? Evil, I say.

And line numbers might be nice.

Hmm, I never actually use editor², I found my favorite text editor long ago; srsly, there are so many text editors out there. No need to make them all do the same. :)

True, but some people might not like installing 10 different programs to do "the same thing" just to decide which one they like.

For instance, I was happy enough to use ed2 (not requiring massively flexible "features" other programs have) but the lack of line numbers annoyed me no end when VBS scripts error-out referencing the line (yes, I know there's a status-bar indicator, but it's not as "quick reference").

So, I went searching for something else... I finally settled on Notepad++ as it does everything I need (plus tabs), but there's a few things I find annoying about it as well. When all else fails one can just use a full IDE like Eclipse or something, but the startup time there becomes a factor, and it's overkill anyway.

There's a lot to be said for simplicity... but a little bit of "crossover" functionality can save people the "bother" of looking for other applications.

i do all my real editing with visual studio, but for notepad style quick loading job you can't beat ed209

this tag matching is really cute!

ps apart from the status bar line number indicator there's also <ctrl+G> command to take you to a particular line number

Notepad++ is my default editor now as well but I used to use Notepad2... it's small and portable and has many of the features of Notepad++ (but no tabs).

No offence, as it's your declared favourite, but Vim (having just tried it) is downright medieval, unless you grew up on DOS which is medieval in itself.

(Even "gvim", which seems to have some rather drastic problems with Win7 x64. Also, very slow to open for some reason, compared to others.

Given your reference to the Catherine Wheel above, maybe medieval is the right term after all...

Vim is a cmd application. Don't except GUI bloat. CLI does not mean medieval.

(It's just that you'll have to learn about its shortcuts first, but typing two or three keys for something that would be way more complicated in ed² and N++ is simply lovely...)

I don't discuss editors, there are so many. And everyone has his preferences and sometimes I switch over. I use this editor for F3 and sometimes F4 if the files are small enough to edit with no need for complex jobs. Otherwise it is Notepad++. There I gave my preferernces.....

Actually there is not really a need for a special x64 build. (Of a text editor?!)
I guess v7.3 won't have these problems anymore.

Not really a need, no, unless someone goes mad and decides to index the universe.

However, I think what WimdeLange is referring to is that the x64 version of x2 already includes ed2 in a x64 version - so it follows that the next update will probably include this modified version in x64 as well.

Whenever that version is forthcoming...

Nikos is probably just testing the waters for the popularity of ed2 upgrades:
