X2L 1.8 as file finder

Post by toothpick »

Have installed several times using the option to have X2L replace windows explorer and cannot make it do that. Every time i reinstall - the same thing when i control F or use the drop down XP's search function. Running latest service pack of XP. Have tried multiple times on my 2 machines at home. Have been using X2L for about a year and used 2XL for several years. Got rid of the WXP Search Asst which is a great help, but xplorer's search is so much more comprehensive and faster. Thanks for any help!

xplorer2's finder is a feature of the Pro version.

Find files in x2Lite calls the default windows search tool.

X2L install feature that does not work

Post by toothpick »

Well then, don't you think you should remove that option from the install that SAYS you can make it's search the default over Windows? And correct the posts here that claim that that feature works?

@ ... remove that option from the install that SAYS you can make it's search the default over Windows -
I am unaware of that being a claimed option for x2-Lite anywhere, much less in the installer.  If I recall correctly, the installer provides a check box for an option that reads something like:
  • "have xplorer² open all filesystem folders when you click on them (replace windows explorer)."
But that is limited to opening file system folders, and does not extend to other functions (such as search) provided by Windows Explorer which hosts the Windows Shell.  Personally, I can see how the parenthetical phrase (replace windows explorer) might be mis-interpreted to extend to all shell functions; but the reality is otherwise.
As far as changing the wording in the installer goes, that is up to the developer (nikos).  [/color]

@ And correct the posts here... -

It is up to the post authors to correct their own posts. More usually errata will be acknowledged in later posts in the same topic(thread), which process leads to a generally more understandable discussion of what follows.

Where you find errors or misleading claims, please make a comment in the subject thread(s) challenging the claims in question so they can be addressed in context.  Thank you.
