x2 sorts on file extension, not name

Post by Brig »

Howdy:

The latest x2 looks terrific--it's working like a charm except for one thing: it seems to sort by default on the extension rather than the filename. If I click the name column heading, filename order is achieved. But subsequently viewed folders are sorted by extension (and refreshing the present folder with ctrl-r reverts back to the extension sort as well). Is there something I'm missing here? Or is there a registry setting I can set to correct this?

Many thanks,
Brig

sorting is the last major thing that remains to be sorted out, it should be in for the next build

Okay great--looking forward, as always, to the next build. Even as it is, x2 is an amazing alpha. Thanks a lot.

Sorting of files

Post by joba »

I agree that the new version looks great!

When sorting by file name - is it possible to keep the folders on top and the zip files after the folders?

A second request: When using dual planes it happens many times that I select a previous folder or root folder using one of the top icons only to find that I was in the wrong pane. Is it possible to let each pane has its own set of icons, or alternatively that each folder can have its own tree?

I second the part about having the folders on top.

Currently, sort-by-extension will put the folders on top, but directly followed by the .zip files (which, to me, don't really feel like folders, no matter how x2 treats them).

Perhaps you would be willing to special case the folders to always put them on top (or bottom, for reverse sorting?), no matter the what the "sort-by-?" type is set to....?

I guess we have just grown to like the way windows explorer does it... :?

zipfolders will be sorted with the folders but there will be a registry setting to treat them as files, so everybody should be happy

i'm not exactly sure what joba's other problem is, but separate tree for each pane is not in the plan

It's OK if each pane does not get a tree. I am referring to the icons next to the address bar i.e. parent and root etc. It could help if each of the planes has its own set of icons so that it is not necessary to first select the appropriate pane and only then the parent or root icons.

Thanks

x2 UI strifes to be "economic" so there's no duplication of toolbars, status bars etc. That's simpler and takes less space.

Having said that some buttons are already capable of affecting the inactive pane when the ALT key is pressed. For instance ALT with the button for "Up a level" takes the inactive pane up. Turning mirror browsing on may be also helpful in some occasions
