xplorer2 - "arranged by" not saved

Post by eitje »

hello! ljohnston here. instead of contacting you directly, I thought I'd try using the forums. ;)

i've run into an issue that i'm not sure if it's the build supplied, or the program in general, but my "arrange by" settings do not appear to save when i shut down x2 - no matter what item is checked or unchecked in the menu above.

pane settings are, however, saved correctly.

also, when can we look forward to resizing the path dropdown? :)

What version of x2 are you running? Saving of sort-by preference only began in 0.35...

this is a little tricky
the sort order is saved only when you change folder (just the one change will do)
Another customer that operates x2 with "save settings at exit" unchecked I presume? :)
resizing the path dropdown
do you mean the addressbar? probably not since this is resizable already

i have everything set to defaults - i just didn't realize that i had to change folders for that setting to be saved. once i set the arranged by, then switched to another folder, then switched back, the arranged by setting was saved when i closed & reopened the program.

if, however, i simply change the setting, then quit (without switching to another folder first), when i reopen x2 the arranged by setting has not been saved. perhaps removing the requirement for switching folders for the arrange by setting to save would be something worth pursuing. :)

Somebody suggested something that might help a little while ago, which was a "save settings now" menu item, but I don't know what came of that.
Nikos?

that's coming but it won't correct this particular glitch

you people don't understand how hard it is for the same code base to service a number of completely different purposes :) (main & scrap frames). It is not as easy as it seems to fix it cleanly...

believe me, i understand how a userbase can say "oh, you're doing this over here, can't you just do that kind of thing over there too?" and in your mind you're screaming "it took me 3 months to get that other thing working, and you want this in a week??!?!?"

i feel for you, and i'm not trying to put any pressure on you. just an assurance that it's on your list of things to see if they're worth doing. :) x2 works great now - and it's even still alphaware. ;)

keep up the good work!
