Seems to me everybody except Ray is taking the easy way out today - what is it about September that makes everyone curl up and shed their leaves?
<Sigh>
Fine, I'll just amuse myself by categorising my toolbar buttons... let's see, A is for Arses Big and Small... B is for Beastiality, C is for... hold on, I have to get all the way up to P is for Porn before I run out of toolbar categories.
So, basically what you really want is those flexi-spacers like Firefox allows in its toolbars. That would make more sense...
E is for Earthgirls are Easy, F is for Fundamental Positions, G is for Gonorrhoea Can Be Educational...

Those would be good too, but it's not what I have in mind. I was thinking more about being able to disable different categories or just quickly reposition them.Kilmatead wrote:So, basically what you really want is those flexi-spacers like Firefox allows in its toolbars. Speaking of FireFox... here's a censored version of its top

Unluckily for you, UI coding has always been Nikos' bête noire - this last excursion into dockable things struck me more as an amusement than anything else - vanity was never his strong point, which is far more respectable than a shiny UI.IneedHelp wrote:I was thinking more about being able to disable different categories or just quickly reposition them.
Just take a deep breath and slow your heart down, there is help available:IneedHelp wrote:Speaking of FireFox...
The two medications proven to be most effective in the treatment of OCD are tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). Serotonin is a chemical in the brain called a neurotransmitter that may be imbalanced in people with OCD.

I imagine changing the limit isn't as easy as replacing 16 with 99, but I'm also guessing that more toolbars do not require individual programming.Kilmatead wrote:Unluckily for you, UI coding has always been Nikos' bête noire - this last excursion into dockable things struck me more as an amusement than anything else - vanity was never his strong point, which is far more respectable than a shiny UI.
The type I'm suffering from can easily be cured if you take everything from me. Either that or something to forever keep me distracted, like a hostile alien invasion or global atomic wars. So, instead of fighting it, I'm embracing it, and while toolbars have little to do with, they do host those buttons which help me reduce frustration and save time otherwise spent with stupid/insane routines as some may say.The two medications proven to be most effective in the treatment of OCD are tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs) and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)

I never said it would be hard to do, just whether or not he was inspired to bother with it or not. If I were ye, I would start having fun force-ably creating duplicates of the entries underIneedHelp wrote:I imagine changing the limit isn't as easy as replacing 16 with 99, but I'm also guessing that more toolbars do not require individual programming.

renaming some of your existing ones from say, F_... to 10_... then recreating F_... just to see what would happen. In no way shape or form am I in the least suggesting this would work, but I have found that things like bookmarks can be rather easily made simply within regedit, bypassing x2 completely. Whether or not you'd be able to edit them is a different story, but if you had a few that were static in nature, I'd duplicate those above the limit, then perhaps recreate duplicates of virgin toolbars to play with (back within the 0 - F realm) like a debauched emperor.
Would it work? Probably not. Would it show initiative? Yes. Would you learn something about how back-ass-wards some of the entries are formed? Yes. Is it better than complaining about hitting your head on the ceiling and saying "Dad! I broke the lightbulb again, Fix it!"? Most assuredly yes.
You really must read more about tilting at windmills. Even Nikos respects foolhardly initiative - he is Greek after all, they sort of invented it.
What is it with all alien invasions being hostile? Why can't they just be indifferent to us like the ants that we are? Why must aliens always have to have some malevolent intent behind their invasion practices, when it's more likely they wouldn't even notice our silly existence (it's not like humans are capable of truly influencing the universe or anything), so why do we ascribe this belief even to our own little bubble of space and time? God, it's so hard to kill the Victorian Ideals once they're ingrained in a modern assumption. I find the idea of human worthlessness rather appealing in a physiologically dysfunctional way. True, not much of a growth market, but hey, the truth often hurts.IneedHelp wrote:...like a hostile alien invasion
Anyway, yeah, tilt at the windmills over yonder - you never know.

I suppose I should add a disclaimer to that: those suggestions were aimed solely at the above user only. Under no circumstances should anyone else do any such thing, as thine own foolhardy initiative will no doubt break something. I'm merely suggesting a course of action that leads to knowledge (even useless knowledge gained in failure can be a good thing). And that user has no fear of breaking things, which is probably the only thing that might work in his favour.

Trust, I've played a lot with the registry entries. I tried what you suggested when I attempted to transfer MainFrame toolbars to the ScrapFrame and failed miserably, so I copied just the command IDs and number of buttons to fresh toolbars. Seems these toolbars are limited to single digit hexadecimal range- duplicating doesn't work, going over the limit helps not. True, I didn't test then as much as I did today, but still, no success.Kilmatead wrote:If I were ye, I would start having fun force-ably creating duplicates of the entries under[...]
Well, friendly aliens can't keep me away from my PC for too long, so it has to be hostile in order to have any effect on my self-admitted dumb, cumbersome, but vital routines. Wasn't implying that aliens have any kind of interest in (hurting) us whatsoever.Kilmatead wrote:What is it with all alien invasions being hostile?

I was afraid of that when I was looking at the definitions, as toolbars are live malleable objects with more complex storage settings they might have a hardcoded allocation limit. I might take a shot at it myself one of these days, if I can work up some enthusiasm. The first thing to look for is if they can be influenced manually (within regedit) even in a negative fashion, then it's a matter of backtracking and rebuilding in your own image. But that initial single-digit might be the stumbling block. Seems odd, though.IneedHelp wrote:Seems these toolbars are limited to single digit hexadecimal range- duplicating doesn't work, going over the limit helps not.
One of the first things to learn about being human is that everything is out to hurt us in some fashion or other, including our own selves. And especially those things we consider the most innocent. (This applies to everything from Labrador puppies to fanciful young débutantes.) It's a jungle. You'll be much safer once you enter your cyborg phase. Aliens are probably no worse than wasps, and no better than a bad case of athlete's foot, but meanness is meanness when it comes to nature. Ever seen the voracity of oxidising rust? Pure evil, that. Much worse than the hardiest of African diseases or the suspicion of that aforementioned puppy...IneedHelp wrote:Wasn't implying that aliens have any kind of interest in (hurting) us whatsoever.
Well, yeah, but that's the easy way... where's the fun in that?nikos wrote:toolbars are layout specific, one way to get another set...

:D I figured as much. The purpose is to have more on a single layout, not to handle different layouts to get different sets of toolbars (and different layout settings as well).nikos wrote:as toolbars are layout specific, one way to get another set of 14 toolbars is to define a new layout (see window menu)

The "multiple layouts" are still one of the most annoying things in x². Usually the first step when installing x² (after buying a new machine or smth) is to remove the predefined layouts in order to avoid accidentally falling into them.

Regex Renamer
I'm late to this party, so I'll just add that RegexRenamer has worked wonders for me.
If you know and love Regular Expressions like me, then it's awesome, but if you don't, stick to 1 of the other thousands of renamer apps out there.
