Suggestion re configuration - perspectives/views

Post by dda »

I guess x2 must be getting to the stage now where you are thinking about tidying up various SETTINGS and CONFIG options.

I have a suggestion (forgive me if it's been raised already).

Rather than being able to save (say) "script wizard templates" and/or "column customization" etc etc, all separately... I would really prefer something like the "save settings now" which saves all settings together and where you could save them under a name, then recall by name.

Perspectives or views.

Perhaps you could put 5 or 10 favourites under hot-keys or TABS or some such?

that's what registry sub-keys are for in windows menu
they allow you to save things under an alternative key and also you can open new windows from all the available alt keys. I have one e.g. that opens a small one pane window

at a later stage when named properties are going to be saved in the registry (e.g. find file command parameters) they'd probably go in a centralized key so they will be available from all alternative keys without duplication

Registry SubKeys as Views

Post by dda »

Well...... I guess you are exactly correct!

Because referencing state stored in sub-keys opens a new window, I hadn't really thought of it as "opening a view".

Now that I think about it, I guess that the extra open window in not a big deal... an advantage in some instances.

P.S. I guess I had in mind being able to save away (in one hit) all the config options EXCEPT the actual directory trees where you are broswing. Your answer makes me realise I haven't thought about this enough.
