xplorer² Ultimate and REG -vs- INI

Post by wperkins99 »

I have decided to have xplorer² Ultimate on both my desktop computer and my USB stick. I want to get away from using Windows Registry on the desktop computer and store all the settings in the INI file.

FWIW, I still have a "non-Ultimate" copy of xplorer² on my desktop computer (that has stored its settings to the Registry).

I have some questions:

1.   When xplorer² Ultimate starts up, where does it look first for its settings - INI file or Registry? Is there a way to control it?

2.   At one time xplorer² Ultimate wasn't storing *every* setting in its INI file, correct? If so, has this been corrected?

3.   Is there a preferred source for the settings when xplorer² Ultimate is on a desktop computer? (That is, some reason why it might be better to store them in the Registry.)

Thanx for your help.

xplorer2 ultimate first checks if there was a settings file passed with the /I: command line option, then it checks for the default settings file called x2settings.ini, first the user appdata folder (shell:appdata), then it checks the installation folder. If no settings file was found, the registry is used

the settings file holds all the program settings

Holy lemon gumdrops, Batman! That's the first time Nikos has ever given a perfect answer to a question without leaving something out or sounding like he's bored with life!  Maybe large families agree with the Greek demeanour?

Narayan, if you're listening, you might want to copy that paragraph verbatim and put it in the manual somewhere as a footnote reference to page 49 (adding a few capital letters and some punctuation, maybe).
