You're right the icon overlays are OK in the 64 bit versions. But - there's always a but - and when I saw it I nearly fell out with the cat.
The Shelltoys coexistence problem with menus - is absent in the 32 bit version (Pro & Ult), but its present in the 64bit version (Pro and Ult) - and for the record its absent in Lite
So to get the coloured icon overlays I need the 64 bit version, but then I have to put up with the Shelltoys/X2 menu annoyance - which essentially leaves where I am and $30 out of pocket - why would I do that
Or I can forego the coloured icon overlays and say goodbye to the Shelltoys/X2 menu annoyance - which essentially takes me one step forward and two steps back and $30 out of pocket - why would I do that.
Maybe I can install a 32bit Shelltoys alongside 64bit X2 and get both - no more menu clobbering annoyance and coloured icon overlays. I'll look into that over the next couple of days.
And I'll have a look for an alternative for Context Menu Customising - there's a couple out there - then I can turn the one in Shelltoys off. Mmm+ was good but it died. This could be the best way out of this Catch 22.
I have gut feeling that one of the reasons I upgraded from X2-Lite to Pro back in 2005/6 was icon overlay support

Well, the reason the 32bit X2 menu bar doesn't get clobbered by Shelltoys Menu Customisation is because 32bit X2 does clobber Shelltoys Menu Customisation
Windows Explorer Context Menu - the 5 flyouts - Rarely Used...Search and Scan - are 'folders' that I define in Shelltoys into which I put context menu items that I don't want on the main context menu.

32bit X2 Context Menu - note that the 5 flyouts have gone AWOL

64bit X2 Context Menu - note that the 5 flyouts are back. But look at X2's menu bar - bit of a mess - yes.

If you're thinking - why haven't you said/done anything about this before. Know that I do not seek Utopia (which is why I refuse to live in the RUFIES Dystopia). As GBS did say, "Life wasn't meant to be easy, my child...", then he went on to hastily add "...but take courage: it can be delightful!". But by then most people had stopped listening
I'll have a look at Glary Utilities menu customisation and any others I can find - it would be nice to have a fully functional X2 menu bar
BTW as well as running interference on 64bit X2's menubar, I think Shelltoys is doing the same on X2's Context Menu Organise function. I'll need to wind up 32bit X2 bit version to check it out.

RUFIES - Recalcitrant Union of Former Independent European States.
The more common EUSSR has become a bit passe - as well as showing a total lack of imagination.
RUFIES is urban slang for Rufinol (aka as Rohypnol) often referred to as the Date Rape Drug - which is what the EU is doing to its member states - in spades, clubs, diamonds and hearts.

Me too - and if you look you will see it in the piccies of my context menuFrizzleFry wrote:I like FileMenu Tools...

But I don't think it provides the means to hide things such as "Open <folder> as Notebook in One Note" in a sub menu - And yes I have the latest version.
That's what Shell Toys does - it shows the current context menu and allows items to be moved from the main context menu to user defined flyout sub menus - and back again if you change you mind. Its similar to Mmm+ but its dead and no workee with Vista...
Except Shelltoys interferes with X2's 64bit, and X2 32bit interferes with Shelltoys - only X2 - Windows Explorer and XYPlorer are blissfully unaware of Shelltoys - as is Office, Open Office, Irfan View, Gimp, even ancient proggies from NT 3.5 that I converted from OS/2 Presentation Damager.
I found three context menu config gadgets, will check 'em out tomorra

Two were function clones of FileMenuTools - more about adding custom items and removing - but what I want is an organiser so I can hide things and group things.RightPaddock wrote: I found three context menu config gadgets, will check 'em out tomorra

I found something that looked as if it might be perfect - M0ooo. But it will only play in the Windows Explorer playground. Does not work at all with xplorer2 or XYplorer and a couple of others that I checked for good measure. I don't like the chances that it ever will, but I have written to ask.
So I am back to the same dilemma - why would I upgrade to X2 V2.
