Another nit to pick
X2 keeps track of where I went in the folder structure. That way when I visit the same folder again, it remembers the last subfolder or item I had selected when I was in that folder the previous time. Very nice and useful feature I find!
When I do a lot of folder changes it seems the memory of X2 is limited though. I'll give an example:
I have a folder with a lot of subfolders (may be even several levels deep). From this folder I visit the subfolders in sequence. When I return to the parent folder (through backspace), it keeps the folder I just visited selected. This way I only have to hit 'down arrow' once to get to the next folder. Very conveniant.
After visiting a lot of sub(folders), when I return to the parent folder, the selected item is suddenly lost and the top folder in the parent folder has a dotted line around it. When I visit folders which were 'remembered' earlier, the feature still seems to work for those folders. But when I return to the parent folder, the selection gets lost.
Also getting into new folders after the memory gets 'filled' give the same result: the selection is no longer kept for these visits.
I presume this has something to do with limited space reserved for remembering these 'visits' to files and folders. Is it possible to make this history behaviour circular, so when the space is filled, the oldest items are discarded?
This would imply to enter the returns to the parent folder in the list as if it were new visits (which is the actual situation anyway in my opinion).
Maybe you have alternatives which are even smarter planned?
Or am I doing something wrong and is there a better way to navigate the folders?
I am for instance still struggling with the Alt-Right-Arrow and Alt-Left-Arrow feature: sometimes I have to use Alt-Right-Arrow to go back to where I was before. The logic in these commands eludes me sometimes. Maybe you can clarify the usage a bit for me?
Thanks for your time in advance for reading this novel
Jan.
