x2 0.0.0.47 always checking floppy drive

Post by infra-red »

Every time I open the app it checks my floppy drive making that familiar but unwanted noise

Is there a way to stop this happening?

You probably have the floppy-drive as active drive in X2 when it starts. This may not seem to be the case, because after it revs up the floppy-drive, X2 'sees' that its no use and shows your desktop in stead. You also almost certainly have the option 'save settings' turned off. This makes X2 trying to access the floppy on each startup.

Make sure you have 'save settings' turned on and change to another drive before closing the app (or accept the default == desktop, which should be active any way :) ). Then start X2 again.
The grinding of the floppy drive should be vanished.

If you don't want to save your settings on exit, just select 'Save settings now' from he actions menu and your problem should also be gone.

Of course, when you have dual pane mode active, make sure none of the panes have the floppy-drive as active directory before closing X2! The above suggestion of turning 'save settings' or 'save settings now' both make sure this happens automatically.
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:

I think it also checks drives if the folder tree is open.

Maybe an option could be added so it wouldn't check drives unless you opened a folder in them?

x2 doesn't check nothing on purpose
its just windows, whenever "my computer" is read it tries to validate the contents. That causes noises and delays. I'll see if there's any way round it although it looks dim at the moment

It still does it. I don't think it's a Windows problem. It doesn't do it when i open "My Computer" or indeed 2xexplorer.

does this happen only the first time you start the program or every time a new window is opened, eg with Clone <Ctrl+N> command?

Yes,
Do not close 2x or x2 with A drive active (then remove the disk) oops

Are you really sure ? I just read a floppy, closed 2x,removed said floppy, restarted 2x and my floppy drive made that
"familiar but unwanted noise"
If i close with c and d active it doesn't do it.
