How to disable pop-up filename box wherever the cursor is?
This is driving me absolutely nuts:
How do you get rid of that little box which pops up with information on the file that the cursor is pointing to?
It's an utter user-interface disaster: it blocks the six filenames below it as well as whatever's in the column to the right.
So it forces you into this little micro-panic to catch those filenames, or the information to the right, or both, in the half-second pause (or whatever it is) before the little box pops up. If you don't make it in time, you have to go out of your way to move the cursor to somewhere where you don't want it, then read the information that was hidden, then look all over the pane to see where you pushed the cursor to because your eyes were focused on seeing the information and not following the cursor, then move the cursor back.
That's a staggering amount of cursor movement and a sure-fire stress multiplier.
Also I can't figure out why the little box sometimes shows just the filename and sometimes also the type, size and date modified, but that's a moot point because both are in the way.

use TOOLS > OPTIONS > WINDOW and tick off the infotip box

Opposite request.
Is it possible to make the infotip display last longer? It doesn't stay on screen long enough when there is a lot to read.
Ideally, I would like it to remain on screen until I have finished reading it, i.e. until i choose to dismiss it...
Is there any undocumented option?

perhaps a tweak-UI kind of tool will have a setting that controls the default infotip timeout, not sure!

Re: How to disable pop-up filename box wherever the cursor i
Yes of course, that was the first thing I tried. Checking/unchecking the box doesn't change anything.nikos wrote:use TOOLS > OPTIONS > WINDOW and tick off the infotip box
I also tried changing 'Byte size file limits for extracting infotips' to 100000000, and to 1000000000, but that didn't change the infotips behavior either.
Is this a bug?

Not sure what you mean - I must go to TOOLS > OPTIONS when the window or folder in question is active? I am doing that.nikos wrote:you must use TOOLS > OPTIONS in the desired window (scrap?)

Here is from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... 11495.aspx:nikos wrote:perhaps a tweak-UI kind of tool will have a setting that controls the default infotip timeout, not sure!
On my system, the xplorer timeout seems to be 2 seconds. This is OK for most files, but not for big ZIP archives. 5 seconds would be OK then, but would be overkill for ordinary files. So ideally, xplorer² would use timeout values that are “multiples of the SPI_GETMOUSEHOVERTIME and SPI_GETMESSAGEDURATION system parameters instead of using fixed times”. Any chances?Guidelines
Timeouts
…
For tooltips, use the default five-second tip removal timeout.
For infotips, turn off the tip removal timeout. Developers: Since you can't technically turn off the removal timeout, set it to its largest value.
For accessibility, if you need to set the timeout values to something other than the maximum value, make them multiples of the SPI_GETMOUSEHOVERTIME and SPI_GETMESSAGEDURATION system parameters instead of using fixed times. Doing so adjusts the timeouts to the speed of the user.

there is one TOOLS > OPTIONS in normal xplorer2 windows and one in scrap windows. You must do this for the window type you are having problems withrichardk wrote:Not sure what you mean - I must go to TOOLS > OPTIONS when the window or folder in question is active? I am doing that.

The pale yellow text box.
The cursor was there, directly over the box, but the screengrab doesn't pick it up.

Re: How to disable pop-up filename box wherever the cursor i
OK.
I would like to be able to disable it (i.e this is a feature suggestion). I have few or no situations where I need a filename infotip - but I definitely have a lot of situations, probably every day, where the column width setup that is otherwise the most useful results in the infotip covering information that I need in the column to the right.
thanks

I have the same issue in the search/srap window, I did turn it off but at each restart it comes back.
It's fine in the main explorer, there it stays off.
