x2 Preview pane on demand

Post by rulle »

Hi,
I would like to have the preview pane always work on demand, meaning it does not show anything until a file is actively selected. The current behavior is a bit distracting/annoying when browsing directories.

Thanks

selection is a harder concept to define, e.g what if you have many files selected? However focus is only one and you can change it without affecting the selection. I can only recommend that you turned the previewer off untill you actually required its services

I think my initial request was a bit off target, it does indeed work as I desire if I only use the folder tree to browse directories. The problem only appears if I open directories from the panes. The double-click to open a folder activates preview for the first (file) item inside the folder. I think it would be better if it didn't.

Great piece of software btw.

Probably there is a scope for change: suppose the previewer works only when the item is focused with a blue square (and NOT for dotted outlie)?

In case of multiple selection, none should be previewed.

I tend to agree with Nikos on this. It is almost natural behaviour to have the focused item displayed in the preview window. This way you can even switch the focus to another item (even with multiple items selected) to preview another file within your selected items (using the Ctrl-key)

Is also consistent with the statusbar, which indicates the size and modification date of the focused file only
