The proprietary PDF should be deprecated. It's time for a new, better exchange format IMO.

I am also using v9.x on windows 7 but I tried the older filter DLL on windows 8 and it no longer worked. Perhaps if one installs the whole reader v9.x package it will work (?)

Very interesting post, thanks.
I think I shall boycott Adobe products after reading that.

It's worth a try if you stay with W8 and Adobe reader.nikos wrote:I am also using v9.x on windows 7 but I tried the older filter DLL on windows 8 and it no longer worked. Perhaps if one installs the whole reader v9.x package it will work (?)
My self, I'm happy with W7, I got every thing working.

Re: blog: PDF extraction riddle solved
As a blind user I like to be able to have PDF's as text because they are easier to read/understand. So, it is hard to read what Adobe Reader converts from PDF to text! After reading this, now I understand that the conversion process is bad on purpose! But, I am not a programmer and can't make use of the code in this post. So, I will keep on looking for software that will convert PDF's to text.
