2x copy bug?

Post by tadmor »

:D I've just begun trying 2x and x2 and really like both of 'em.

I've skimmed through the 2x-x2 boards and FAQ to get up to speed, but I haven't been at it for hours with a magnifying glass. I may therefore be repeating a question, but here goes:

1. I can only copy an attachment in Outlook into 2x and x2 by drag-and-drop but not a Copy and Paste operation. Is this a bug? Sometimes drag-and-drop is fine, but not always.

2. Has any detailed comparison of 2x and x2 been done? I like the look and feel of x2 better, esp. the comments column. However, I guess as a small business operator, I am conservative about file security, and all the warnings about x2's alpha status push me toward 2x. What is the worst that has actually happened during x2 testing?

1. (I take it you mean copy from outlook). I can't reproduce this, which version of outlook are you using?

2. x2 is quite stable but "you are only meant to use it for test purposes" as the alpha warning when you first run it says

The copy and paste from Outlook depends on how the attachment is displayed in the note. If it is with the main body of text then you can copy and paste without any problems. If the attachment is seperated from the text and is shown on the bottom of the email as a seperate window then Outlook won't allow any copy paste commands, only drag and drop.

I seem to remember that the option of where the attachent is placed is made at the sender end. You can have the attachements in-line or as an attachment. I can't remember where this is set though sorry.

and there is also a difference between 2x & x2 with this copying.

x2 works for me the 3 ways I checked {drag&drop, Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V, r-click menu}

2x only copies with drag&drop.

And I also have seen different copy functionality from outlook, as a function of how the attachments are shown. (listed in "attachments bar"/ as icons in body/in separate panel below the message) But I am recalling this from copying using m$ explorer, and just accepted the diffs as usual m$ quirks.

Yes, I mean from Outlook. My version is from Office 2000 and has the latest patch installed.

vserghi, in WE and AB Commander, I can copy and paste an attachment from Outlook that is separate and at the bottom of a message, so this is different in 2x and x2.

How do the rest of you get attachments into a folder on the HD? I often find Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V quickest. It is also an essential operation if you want to use Macro Express to set up a project file (as I often do).

The way I get attachments off an e-mail is to r-click on it and save it from there, or drag it into a folder. This will work for x2, 2x and MSExploder.

Outlook will allow copy paste it seems but only by using the mouse, either via the menu or r-clicking on it, for the situations where it is shown in a seprate window at the bottom.

Does this macro express only record key presses, or does it record actions also? Surley using the menu to recrod the action to copy and then paste to another application can be captured?

You can also use the menu 'File.Save attachments...' (this could be phrased differently in your English version of Outlook; I have to translate it from my dutch Oultook version, sorry)
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:

Thanks, fgagnon.

Most of your info holds for my setup. In x2 I can paste an attachment file copied from Outlook into a particular folder with Ctrl+v. This makes it possible to use Macro Express, so that's cool. :D There is some lag time, but the file gets pasted. I have to r-click/copy the attachment in Outlook, though. I guess I've always done that but never thought about it. I cannot copy using Ctrl+c.

With 2x, nothing works except drag-and-drop. Maybe I'll live dangerously with x2!
