sftp etc in xplorer2?

Post by nikos »

I've just found this useful tool: http://www.jscape.com/reddrive/

it is discontinued apparently but it integrates with windows explorer and hence with xplorer2 and extends the native FTP support to other kinds like secure FTP even S3 (!)

it looks to be working ok on windows XP and since it was developed until 2008 it should (?) work for vista too. Perhaps even windows 7

if you use SFTP please give it a go to see if it works or not, and if so i'll add it to the list of recommended downloads

ps. to create a new connection with it, find Red Drive in My Computer, enter it then right click and select "new connection"

that would have been too good to be true... many things work but drag-drop to the FTP folder isn't accepted, so that's the end of it :(

a bit older tool that again claims it can do SFTP substituting the remote folder as a drive is this:
http://www.killprog.com/fdrve.html

i don't have a SFTP connection so could you try it and let us know how it goes?

FTP Drive has secured by SSL/TLS FTP but not SFTP at all.

As for me it would be great if xplorer2 could use WinSCP API for FTP access, but it's just a thought.

i have also switched to winscp for some time
plain ftp as xplorer2 does it is more convenient and familiar but it's not worth the risk of having your passwords eavesdropped

Hello Nikos.

Don't you plan to add SFTP support via WinSCP's API like FAR manager or Altap Salamander?

there are no such plans but if someone develops a 'plugin' for windows explorer then xplorer2 will pick it too

While playing a bit with Altap Salamander and SpeedCommander, I noticed that x² really should add SFTP support. Any news on that?
AFAICS it's possible with Swish at least...?

any updates on this? I installed swift and can access it from xplorer2 but would be nice a native support.

the problem is that it doesn't integrate very well, everytime you close xplorer2 you have to browse to the folder again and login again. Too bad.
