This may fall under the category of stupid questions, but I'll ask anyways. I'm using xplorer² ultimate x64. A while back, while using xplorer² professional, I remember using the 7z NSE tool and being quite happy with what it allowed me to do. I never got around to installing it for xplorer² ultimate as I didn't have an immediate need for what it offered. With the latest upgrade to ultimate, I notice that I can use Total Commander plugins, some of which allow you to access archive folders like the the 7z NSE tool did.
There are TC plugins for a lot of other functions besides accessing archive folders, but for that specific purpose, which approach is better? Can I use 7z NSE for archives and TC plugins for other purposes at the same time?
Namespace extensions and/or Total Commander plugins?

there's not much to choose. An important difference is that the NSE I made requires registration with the system, whereas WCX TC plugins don't -- if you are interested about portability

Note that both 7zNSE and plugins allow themselves to be separately targeted at specific (file-extension) types, so from that point of view if you (for some reason) use 7zNSE for handling RAR and ZIP's, but a plugin for ISO and TGZ (assuming it provides better/more functionality, such as column-extraction), you should be safe enough, as long as you configure them properly.jporubek wrote:Can I use 7z NSE for archives and TC plugins for other purposes at the same time?
But if it's just a matter of browsing into archives, as Nikos said, portability is the main difference - which approach is "better" is purely subjective.
Other than that, plugins (for other purposes) won't generally conflict with anything, often not even each-other.
