Window Title Cluttered - Remove [.2] *

Post by oldbushie »

Is there a way to disable window title numbering? It gets very cluttered, especially if I've opened a new window for the tenth time. For some reason the numbering continues to go up indefinitely even when older windows are closed, unless I exit out entirely from xplorer2.

Also, why is there an asterisk in the window title now? Mine looks like this for instance:
xplorer2 [.2] * - D:\Docs

It used to look like this:
xplorer2 - D:\Docs

I just updated recently after not updating for a couple years, so I'm not sure which update made that change.

the * means that you are running xplorer2 as administrator. This is not recommended, please see here

as for the numbering, it cannot be disabled; you can put all this information after the path name if you find it distracting. See TOOLS > ADVANCED OPTIONS menu command, search for "program name will be last..."

Ah, ok, thanks for the clarification. I was hoping to at least find an option in the Advanced registry settings to turn off window numbering; I open and close a lot of xplorer windows in the course of a day. Would it be possible to at least fix the numbering to reuse smaller numbers that are no longer in use? So if I opened 5 windows, closed 4, then opened another window, I would expect the title to say [.2] instead of [.6].

I might switch it to put the path first as well per your suggestion, though it's a bit jarring since I've been using this for several years now so I'm used to seeing the text in a certain order, haha.
