Copying; Keep Window Open w/ Use Queue Option

Post by Gork »

I've noticed a small thing which my not be working as intended... When you use "use queue" option with robust copy and check the box to "keep this window open at the end of transfer" that box unchecks when additional queue copies are performed. So if I start a queue operation and walk away but want the copy window to remain open at the end of all the queue copies it doesn't appear I can do it.

While I'm writing, I wanted to say that it might be nice to include in the "keep window open" window a notation that the operation has completed.

the good news is that when this happens all old copy logs are preserved so you can still see whatever has happened long time ago

when the copy is complete, there usually is a 100% text on the progress window titlebar

I don't know anything about the old copy logs so that hasn't been helpful for me to this point. And while there IS a 100% text on the progress window titlebar, that titlebar is no longer on the screen when the window closes because the "keep window open" option doesn't transfer over to the next queued copy. I guess if it's working as intended and that's the way you prefer it it'll have to do - just seems a little, I dunno, unfinished and needlessly (if only a little) inconvenient is all.

to make sure "keep window open" is sticky, use the copy options button when you start a copy. If you tick the option from there, it will apply for all your copy operations. If you merely tick the option in the copy progress dialog, it doesn't stay on for long

K I'll try that next time - kind of an odd additional step but if that's what I need to do then I will.

How do I access the logs you referred to? I can't find an option in the GUI.

use the ERROR LOG button in the progress dialog. But the information is mostly unnecessary unless you had silent operation enabled

Big copy operation time of the month for my backup files - copying daily image files over to removable storage from June - so I got a chance to better follow your instructions to see how things worked. I understand the thought process behind the "keep this window open at end of transfer" options in the software - it makes more sense to me now. Thanks!

Is there a way to view the error log you mentioned afterwards if I neglect to use the "keep this window open" option? Or is that unnecessary because if there is an error the error log will open anyway?

once the window is closed the "error log" is lost, but if there was any real error, the program would offer you to read the log before it is discarded. So if you didn't hear anything about errors, it means there's not much to worry about
