"Find" vs junctions. Do junctions block Find? (Blacklist)

Post by plugger »

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
Xplorer2 4.0.0.2 ULT x64 5/21/2018

This is the folder structure in C:\Users\RJD\...

C:\Users\RJD\AppData\Local
C:\Users\RJD\AppData\LocalLow
C:\Users\RJD\AppData\Roaming
C:\Users\RJD\Application Data This is a junction linking to C:\Users\RJD\AppData\Roaming

If I plant Xplorer2 on C:\Users\RJD\AppData\ and run a Find, it finds folder C:\Users\RJD\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\
If I plant Xplorer2 on C:\Users\RJD\, it does not find C:\Users\RJD\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\
Same result with depth- and breadth-first.

Does that junction get in the way?

xplorer2 has an advanced option whether to follow junctions or not (see TOOLS > ADVANCED OPTIONS menu), but in your case you are stung by the search blacklist, which you can also control from advanced options. For more information see here

Wonderful!

I belatedly looked in file Ultimate/x2help.htm [Help->Quick start] and found the following in "Search results":

"... make a folder blacklisted, ... by entering the folder's full path under the registry key HKCU\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2.global\Find Blacklist."

Sure enough, the registry key "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2_UC.global\Find Blacklist" has the blacklist.

Of course, using "Tools->Advanced options" is better.

It might be helpful to have a check box in the "Find files or folders" dialog box to choose whether to ignore the blacklist, and maybe a button to edit the blacklist.
