Filenames unreadable on thumbnails - make background opaque, not transparent

Post by richardk »

In Thumbnail View filenames longer than 2 or 3 lines are unreadable when the file is highlighted because the background is transparent and the filename overlaps with the thumbnail in the row below. (The first line or two is fine because they don't overlap.) How do you make the background opaque? I hope it's not a Windows thing that can't be changed because it's a colossal headache.

the idea with thumbnail view is to show thumbs, not text. If a filename is cropped, you can use the infotip to see it whole (leave the mouse on the filename)

Go back and think about what you just said: "no one ever needs to know the filename of a thumbnail". I don't know what's worse, whether you really think that or you write nonsense that you don't really think. Either way, i'd appreciate it if you stop wasting my time with obviously useless replies that zero other people would ever think make any sense.

I see you had to think hard and long for this inspired response :)

thumbnail labels are ok for short filenames, if it wraps in multiple lines you can see the filename when you click on it. It is messy but a trade-off for squeezing more thumbs in a pane.

of course, I don't even remember how it worked for your older version, try out the latest xplorer2 and see if you like it better

ps. For less clutter with thumbnail labels, remove the icon spacing advanced option (TOOLS > ADVANCED OPTIONS menu)
search for "spacing between thumbnails" and set it to 0.
