new version under way
I started working on v5.3 update, but I am short on ideas, so why don't you drop us your own idea for improvement?

A full Norton Commander mode, with white-on-blue colors and a button bar on the bottom side of the window.

I already gave you my ideas before, but it seems Tuxman is just as hyped about some UI changes as I am lol.
Seriously, though ... nope, nothing new, really. It does what I want it to as I want it to.

Re: new version under way
There have been extensions and work-arounds created by users over the decades that could make for useful extensions to the X2 base code. This would help new users of X2 to immediately gain the benefits of these extensions without needing to dig through years of forum entries, try, fail and try again to successfully integrate each one, then finally, after years of integration, see that all the effort was worth it, just as Windows 27 is released and dooms all file handlers that don't pay homage to Bill Gate$ to the scrap heap.

- Fix the missing $C and $U tokens when executed against an empty folder. Even empty folders have parents!
- Some of Kilmatead's extensions could be incorporated into X2 base code to prevent them becoming obsolete in future versions:
- X2Filter - "My God, it's Full of... Defined Filters?"
- SetFolderColour - Setting Colored Folder Icons in x2 (Revisited)
- Khronos - Khronos: A Plugin for Ageing Gracefully
- X2Toolbar32 - Painless Custom Toolbars (No Morphine/Tourniquets Required)
- Seafa - Set Extra Attributes for Anoraks
- CompareHandler - Driving 3rd-Party Comparisons in x2 (A Paradigmatic Utility)
- x2ResUpdater - xplorer2 Resource Updating and Management for Dummies
- and my personal favorite, Feature Request - Smart EDIT, which Kilmatead attempted to mollify with TemperTantrumEdit. Unfortunately there were issues with it and it has never been working. Alas, poor Kilmatead left us
before he and I could collaborate on this and come up with a working feature.
- Snakebyte's Menu++
- Snakebyte's MenuHack

Re: new version under way
To the list Kilmatead extensions mentioned by PJ, I would add Endian Plugin 1005. It is utterly essential to my work, and I'd love to see it become an internal part of x2.

if kilmatead's plugins work, why reinvent the wheel?
I was thinking about new features or improvements

I guess I'm assuming you have an interest in growing the user base. Maybe I'm wrong.
"...Unfortunately there were issues with it and it has never been working...."
Some do, some don't. Again, better to have these added as new features than lost when the code breaks and the original authors (Kilmatead, Snakebyte...) are no longer around to support them.
Also, there are NOT plug-ins, they're bandaids.

Proper implementation of a drive bar above each window in dual pane mode.
Yes I know you created a hack for this which I use on a old pc but upon installation of X2 in a new PC I can't get the hack to work.

I was thinking about this... I am thinking of putting it together with the dual-tree added in v5.2
is that how you consider using it? with or without the tree?

Re: new version under way
+1 for Kilmataed's and Snakebyte's work getting into x2 officially.
How many new users are going to find these? To a new user, these will be new features, for anyone else already familiar wth them and use them, they now know that this will be supported going forward.
Kilmataed and his musings hasn't been around for a while now, Snakebyte as well I think. These useful additions WILL break at some point and who will fix them?

Re: new version under way
that would be an insult to kilmatead's legacy
what I should do is perhaps write a blog post about these useful plugins so that people outside this forum will know about them
... only problem is that I don't use any of them, so perhaps
This is a serious proposition

who had the idea, should write them up?

I don't use trees at all. Only time I use tree is in vanilla explorer.nikos wrote: 2022 Oct 06, 08:06 I was thinking about this... I am thinking of putting it together with the dual-tree added in v5.2

Re: new version under way
Neither do I, honestly. (I never even liked Xtree.) I used trees a lot in the past, but a few years with several file managers have made me prefer to click through the folders directly.

Re: new version under way
I think adding KIlmatead's extensions to X2 would actually be a way to honor him!
You asked for input, but when people give you some (that you apparently don't want to do) you make (non-technical) excuses as to why it would not be good. It is not necessary to include all of those addons from the two folk heros, but maybe several WOULD be useful enhancements.
