...gradually properties now residing in external Advanced options tool will be moved into Tools > Options
You know, had you actually led with that statement earlier, we (I?) might have been a little nicer to you. And that's a hard thing for someone like me to admit. Just a little nicer, mind, not enough to actually resemble anything so ridiculous as genuine human warmth or anything.

I thought, just for a laugh, I'd set up V6 on a USB stick as portable.

Not a good start - Instant problem!

In V5 there is the option "General | save program state on exit to...file in installation folder".

Where is that option in V6?

Save settings on exit is either "No" or "windows registry".

Come off it Nikos, I was writing code before you were even a glint in your fathers eye!!!

V6 is DEAD, as far as I'm concerned, unless you can come up with a better suggestion than to use the search.

YES, I AM ANNOYED!!!!

And the forum lost my post!

There are only two options in the drop-down box - "No" or "windows registry".

Save program state on exit. Recommended location is registry; for portability use File in installation folder (Ultimate version)

What a mess!!!

I duplicated the USB directory - xplorer2_ult 6.0.0.0. (and it's contents), then cleared the directory.
I then copied ALL the V5 files, from the hard drive, to the USB drive (xplorer2_ult 6.0.0.0).
Then... copied the V6 files, from the duplicate directory, to xplorer2_ult 6.0.0.0., replacing all files.

I now have the four options in "save settings on exit", but I don't trust it!!

auf Wiedersehen.

Hmmmm!!

It appears to change the ini file on the USB drive.

If I have x2settings.ini open in a text editor, run x², change something, close x², the ini file is changed. Start x² again and the changes I made have been remembered.

Does that mean it's changing the registry EVEN THOUGH IT'S ON A USB DRIVE?

I don't believe it's writing to the registry, I have both V5 and V6 running at the same time (/P option) and they are different.

One thing I've just discovered. In V5, there is a little green arrow to the right of the address bar. Not there in V6. It appears to be on the Filter bar. How do I run a command from the address bar using the mouse, NOT the keyboard.

I can't stop messing about with x², I must be a glutton for punishment!!

Do you have an "enter" key on your mouse? I don't.

The whole point of using the mouse is to use the mouse, NOT the keyboard. If I use the keyboard, then I use the keyboard. If I use the mouse, then I use the mouse.

We're wasting enough time on this, the more I look at V6, the more I hate it.

YES - on screen keyboard.

It's easier, but obviously much slower, to use the mouse and the on screen keyboard if my polymyalgia rheumatica is bad. Because the polymyalgia rheumatica effects my hands I end up with "claw hand" and typing is difficult, and painful.

Windows 10 and Windows 11 have an On-Screen Keyboard (OSK). It can be used exclusively with the mouse.
Have a look at Use the On-Screen Keyboard (OSK) to type
