anorak: frequent commands

Post by nikos »

what's your most frequently used command in xplorer2?
use regedit, and find the biggest number under this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\ZabaraKatranemia Plc\xplorer2_UC.global\FrequentCommands

mine are:
(23) command 40300 -> user command WINDIFF, use count 4241
(22) view file (F3)

Image

to map command numbers to ID names use this resource file

ps. there are no privacy concerns here, this key isn't exported anyplace, e.g. to cyprus :)

Well, there's 2 minutes I'll never get back again.

For some unknown reason I used ID_MARK_ESPACESEL 12,308 times. Since I don't know what ID_MARK_ESPACESEL actually is, I'm going to guess that it's something one of my scripts calls a lot. Apparently a lot, a lot.

30 years ago there was a Playstation-1 game called Vagrant Story, which was a quasi-JRPG thing that I sank many hours of unemployment-fun into. Many hours. Curiously, it had these silly "achievements" (this was long before the Steam platform existed), that all involved nonsense like "Kill 100 Ghouls", or "Open 500 Loot Chests", etc. My personal favourite (which I never achieved), was "1,000,000 Button Presses". Those little PS1 controllers were pretty robust pieces of plastic - or, rather, the game designers had an unshakeably optimistic belief in Japanese Technology.

God bless ID_MARK_ESPACESEL, you just keep chugging along there, little guy.

ID_MARK_ESPACESEL is pressing space to turn selection on/off
for v6 I excluded such non-commands from frequency statistics, obviously yours dates from PS1 era :)
if you want to waste some more time, delete the frequent command keys while xplorer2 isn't running and start your journey fresh

looks like you're looking at the wrong key, see frequent COMMANDS, not folders

Whoops - I did accidentally move to that tree, didn't even realize it.

nFreq 150
szItem 803f

aka

#define ID_GOTO_BACK 32831

Might be because this is a recent clean installation.

I got
23. FILE_RENAME 32792 (68542) - is this for single file renames or each file in mass renames?
22. VIEW_NEXTPANE 32857 (59478) - is this just pressing tab to switch between panes?
21. EDIT_MOVETO 32794 (35631) - this is probably F6

the next highest freq at 6201 is command e125 (57637) which I do not see in the resource file

you are doing a lot of renaming!
next pane is TAB to other pane, it is no longer monitored
the other one e125 is paste

Thanks very much for the resource header file. It will help in some of the overly elaborate autohotkey automations I use with X2. No other editor will do, due to the 3XXX et al exposed commands, for which I try to make habit of sending you thanks.

[edit: changed "due, due" to "do, due" [mind apparently is in do-do deeply]]

I also modified the command finder tool (HELP menu) to accept command numbers and give out the explanation

Why not just build this function into the next build of X²? And by build it in, just have the routine there for anyone curious, that only runs when the user specifically looks at that function, so it is not wasting resources when not in use (not that it really would, as it is simply querying the registry, and then auto-magically converting the result into a human-readable value, but still....)

Or, is that what you were already planning to do, and thus introduced us to this manual check now?
