Thank you sir for this reminder! Was able to change the config on the editor to save files the modern way instead of the floppy-disk way, and now my hardlinks persist regardless of which editor gets used.

I don't see any use of hard links in modern equipment.
Saving less that a GB space on the HDD is a waste of time, and as not all programs support this, prone to cause problems. Get a 5 TB external HDD of $98 at Sam's Club. Better yet, get two.

And that is in spite of my system having 6 TB of internal storage and another 3 TB in external drives.
Sometimes it's just easier to do hardlinks than have the same file in multiple locations - particularly files that get edited often.
