When I Open Inside, with 7-Zip, the xplorer2_setup64_ult_beta.exe and extract the files to a stand alone x² on a USB stick, I get two editor2_64.exe.manifest and xplorer2_64.exe.manifest files, dated 2019-11-16 and 2019-06-18.

I assume the earlier dated files are redundant. Why are they in the installer?

Also, even though it is run off a USB stick, it changes the registry settings. I had expected it would mess up the registry, so had already exported the settings. Even then, I have to delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ZabaraKatranemia Plc before I import the saved settings, otherwise the settings are a mess.

if you sidestep the installer, you are bound to find "surprises" :)

Been there - done that! x² modifies the registry, as soon as it runs, before I can change any options.

Run x² (6.0.0.8_beta) from the USB stick.
Change Save settings on exit to NO.
Close x².
Run x² (5.5.0.1) from the link on the Desktop.
Tools > Options > Save program state on exit is unchecked! It was checked, before I ran 6.0.0.8 off the USB stick!!!

x² (6.0.0.8_beta) has modified the registry, EVEN THOUGH SAVE SETTINGS ON EXIT IS NO.
