I am using xplorer2 Professional x64 v5.4.0.1.
I tried (for the first time) to set up a user command. All I have is boxes for
'Name'
'Description'
'info'
Icon
and keyboard shortcuts.
The box were I can enter the path to the script is missing.
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Missing User Commands
Hi
to add a user commands use CUSTOMIZE > USER COMMANDS > ADD NEW menu command
alternatively browse to the folder containing the EXE and use ADD CURRENT subitem once you select your command
ps. your key allows you to get v5.5 at no charge, see http://zabkat.com/u_info.htm

Re: Missing User Commands
Hi
Thanks for the reply - I will upgrade!
The issue is that when I go to CUSTOMIZE > USER COMMANDS > ADD NEW menu command there is no option to browse to the folder containing the EXE it use any ADD CURRENT subitem - they are just not there.
The dialogue box in the help file is different from what I have - the option to browse is just missing.
UPDATE: upgraded to 5.5 and it's still not there.

Re: Missing User Commands
add user command doesn't offer "browse", you must type the full path to the tool yourself (unless it is in the system %PATH%)
are you saying that you don't have ADD CURRENT menu item?

Re: Missing User Commands
Under CUSTOMIZE > USER COMMANDS there are three options:
> ADD NEW This leads to a dialogue box which (as described above) contains:
Name
Description
info
Icon
Keyboard shortcuts
There is no box to browse to or type in a path to the command.
>ADD CURRENT does nothing, merely an error 'ding' from the windows system
>ORGANISE brings up a dialogue box with the sample windiff command (which also does nothing but does not allow you to add a command.
Sorry if this is unclear without screenshots.
I have a batch script in C:\Scripts called 'Create Folders'. I have added a context menu item to Windows Explorer so that, if I am in a folder, I can right-click and run the batch file. It creates certain named folders within the main folder.
It works in Windows Explorer - which I hate - and which is why I've been using your excellent replacement for more years than I can remember.
I was hoping I could set it up in xplorer2 to run from the add command menu.
Help!

SOLVED
Under CUSTOMIZE > USER COMMANDS there are three options:
> ADD NEW This leads to a dialogue box which (as described above) contains:
Name = Create Folders
Description = >C:\Scripts\Create Folders.bat
That adds it, and it works.
Not complaining, but that's not very intuitive. Perhaps a browse feature in future versions?
Anyway, thank you for your help!

Re: Missing User Commands
Nikos neglected to mention that Add Current will automatically add the full-path & name of the currently selected item, providing that item is an executable type (.EXE) - it won't add .bat files as (technically) they're only text files.nickgreenfield wrote: 2025 Mar 28, 18:19 >ADD CURRENT does nothing, merely an error 'ding' from the windows system
For anything other than EXE, just use <Alt+C> to copy the path & name of the selected item instead, and then use Add New.
Always remember that if the path for a User Command has any spaces in it, be sure to encapsulate it in quotes.
As you discovered, Nikos has never been lauded for his innate "Grasp of the Intuitive" - and at the rate he's progressing, it probably won't be a top choice for his epitaph either.

Ahhh, yes, that works beautifully. Thanks.
Please don't be too hard on Nikos, I bet he buys doughnuts every time he's in the office.

Re: Missing User Commands
Don't you believe it - he once had me slaving away for a whole summer writing the x2 plugin-manager for him - and I never did see anything more than a bucket of rotted fish-heads and 3-minutes of sun per day, and that's when he deigned to let me out of the dungeon chains at all! (He kept insisting the Mediterranean Sun is soooo fine that that's all anyone needs!)
The only response to doughnuts that he has is to mumble something about how his body's a temple! Heck, he even once had to create a spreadsheet just to explain why his favourite brand of crisps (potato-chips) was superior to others. He's a strange dude that way - with an unfortunately tough skin so even the sharpest of barbs just bounces off. I reckon if I persevere long enough one day I'll have the satisfaction of standing over his bloody corpse, jamming the <F1> key into his forehead yelling, "Help THIS!"
As you can see, I have many unresolved issues about that summer. Especially when my Haloperidol subscription runs low.

Re: Missing User Commands
well I did say about "add current", didn't I?
when I write 2 lines (literally) and people still don't read them, is it me to blame?

Re: Missing User Commands
Story of my life.
Though it does beg the question why add-current is limited to exe's only. In that case, a browsing button makes sense, because the (what is it... "Ineffable command") error is itself ineffable.
