It is helpful and it is also very common. Here are examples in a couple other apps:

When Tux starts asking (what could otherwise be considered) common-sense and rhetorical questions, that's usually a sign that his Visigothic past is weighing heavily upon him again, and he's feeling the need to atone, reaffirm and fulfil his forum role:

I consider myself less of a Visigoth than a Lokean, which may have something to do with my fundamental sympathy for pan-European paganism (unencumbered by any scientific basis). I'm also pretty sure that if any of the stories of our ancestors are true, the gods of jesters will have won bets on me.

This aside, for once my objection was not aimed at causing disruption to the routines. It just struck me suddenly, like an epiphany.

I try to get my - mental - pain under control with music and scotch for the most part. It works surprisingly well. However, I'm pleased to hear that the e-mails no longer leave any room for complaint.

True enough, though most developers find creating (and thus managing) extra menus/submenus/modals/tabs for something so plebeian to be more of an after-thought than fore. Never mind that if you make it too easy, people will start requesting "auto-downloaders" for their updates, et al.

I mean, most often the "About" item is usually the last thing in the help menu (at least in programmes I frequent) making it easy to find, but Nikos chose to put it (weirdly) fourth from the bottom, and instead wants me to "tell a friend". But... what if I don't have any friends? And, rather, this is a psychological sore-point for me, thus I am actually less-likely to use the help menu at all, will never have the latest version, and most certainly will never get free amphetamine M&M's a lab-rat like me expects from being trained to click on a button.

UI design is a sensitive subject, for more reasons than the obvious!

(We won't even mention how in the above screenshot of Notepad++ there isn't even a real "Help" menu-item... just a question mark. I mean... really? Maybe it's a quiz button or "Please take our small survey", or God knows what. Cuts down on localisation-costs, I guess.)

Because the people I surround myself with usually speak in a rather simple way, I actually heard the word "epiphany" for the first time in the Simpsons film. Go figure, indeed.
