layouts saved and inherited

As a very simple (minded) user, I have but one custom layout showing different columns. However even that I seem to have lost.

Or at least I've just noticed it is lost. Is it possible that custom layouts are not inherited when one installs the new v6?

Or alternatively is it likely that a registry cleaner (OK, I know there are a billion different registry cleaner programs) would remove that from a registry thinking it garbage?...

It would be nice if one could export custom layouts to use on different installations..
