v6.2 introduces a startup sentinel, which will monitor for a stuck xplorer² window and will try to open one in "safe" mode to get you going.
So what about the stuck window then? Should the users just learn to live with it?

xplorer2 cannot bypass the laws of physics... do you find you have problems with xplorer2 getting stuck on restart?

But can it read minds? I actually tried to test this when I read the line in the beta, and the simplest way to hang x2's startup was to sprinkle a few 'for(;;)' statements in a plugin, which did the job. Unfortunately I think it read my mind and knew that I was just acting the mick and didn't really mean it any harm, so it just ignored me and remained in an eternally blissful hang-state (deeply contemplating the life-choices it had made up to that point) until I killed the process with all the ceremony a Samurai would be happy with.

I take it that it can't protect against intentionally malicious tricksters within its own process, like my own upset tummy after too much chocolate?

Or do plugins start before your Thread-of-the-Eternal-Conscientiousness initialises so it never got a chance? That doesn't seem very "safe-modey".

I half expected it to restart with plugins disabled to achieve nirvana, like your DLL blacklister thingy (which is kinda cool, by the way).

I have targeted the case where you see the window appearing but being frozen. TC plugins are initialized before that

Hello

Just installed x2 6.2 :I like the + to add a tab, very intuitive, and the "line spacing" it helps my poor seeing quite a lot.

But the blue star stroke me as soon as I set the "Line Spacing" parameter at 105 or more (nice yellow folders from 100 to 104)

I noticed also that the icon of the documents without associated program, in my case .gpx or .tar.gz, instead a of "white rectangle" shows Image

As recommended by Hajubu I have deleted "\iconCache.db" and restart but no success. I did not dare to play in the registry.

An other little annoyance in the "advanced parameter" setting is that the setting of "Line Spacing", or any parameter with a slider, in "Dark mode" is quite tricky. When the row is selected the value is "black on black". When selected the value becomes readable. When the row is un selected the value is nicely white on black !

I run X2 6.2 on Windows 10 22H2 French

Thanks for the hard work you put on X2, Yes I am one the fan of X2. Every time have to work on friend's Pc without X2 I realize I miss something.

I can understand why the problem kicks in at 105; because 104x20/100 rounds back to 20 (default small icon size)
what I don't understand is why it should happen at all...
how many people see the problem?

I wonder if you guys have a custom xplorer2 icon x2icon.ico in the installation folder? I don't have a problem with it, but it could be an issue
also jlrjlr use TOOLS > ADVANCED OPTIONS menu and see if "Disable custom drive icon extraction" is ticked? If it isn't, try to tick it

The "Disable custom drive icon extraction" was NOT ticked.
I ticked it, close the "Advance seting editor" then try to reopen it in order to set the "line spacing" .

I got the message saying that "Advance seting editor" will start and ... nothing ! x2 closes but the "Advance seting editor" does not show, even after reboot.

I can send you the reg files taken just now and a few days ago before 6.2

"are you starting the settings editor from xplorer2 menu? "
Yes I did so yesterday about 10 times and one time this morning to set "Disable custom drive icon extraction"

"double check with task manager that xplorer2 is NOT running and x2SettingsEditor.exe is"
xplorer2 is NOT running and x2SettingsEditor.exe is NOT running

If I dclik on "x2SettingsEditor.exe" , or run it as admin, nothing hapen. If I forget to close X2 I have a message from "x2SettingsEditor.exe" requesting to close X2.

www.zabkat.com/blog/19dec10-reliability-monitor.htm

so you are saying if you manually quit xplorer2 with ALT+X, then start xplorer2 settings editor (e.g. from start menu or windows explorer), the window never shows up?

I start xplorer2 settings editor from windows explorer,(either double clic or 'run as admin') the window never shows up : YES

In all my tests I forgot to close X2 in that case a message warn me that X2 is running. I assume that the message is from "xplorer2 settings editor".
