Curently my setings are : NORMAL spacing and "custom icons" disabled "

The trouble start as soon as I disable the icon stuff, close the editor ,then wanted to re open it to change settings for increased spacing

I cannot change any advance settings since the advance setting editor cannot start

Not a new problem Nikos.
Happened in v5.
Select Tools| Advanced options.
Message to close x².
Click "Yes".
NOTHING!!
Check with Process Explorer, both x² & x2SettingsEditor.exe running, but NO window for either.
Kill them, repeat and it all works.

I never reported it because I could never find any logic to it, it appeared to be totally random. Perhaps you have now found the reason.

please try this newer settings editor
www.zabkat.com/test/x2SettingsEditor.zip (you can drag-drop it in the installation folder)
looks like the new feature that selects the last edited option is buggy with lots of checkboxes

anyway, now it should work :)

Gandolf, supposedly you cannot even start the settings editor without quitting xplorer2. If your xplorer2 can't quit, implies some deep trouble (shell extension?). It could also be related to running xplorer2 as admin

I never tried to start the settings editor. Seeing both appeared to be running, I just killed them, ran x², then the advanced options. It worked, and I couldn't reproduce it again. Then, days, weeks, months... later, it would happen again.

If it was a shell extension, I assume it would be repeatable.

I run all programs as Admin.

Just tried it on v5, no problems. A couple of dozen times, different x² settings, different directories. It all worked. Gremlins (or my Canadian Sphynx cats - they are full of mischief  ).

Hello

Good news : the new settings editor is ok

Not so good news : "Disable custom drive icon extraction" has no effect. The blue star shows instead of yellow folder

now kilmatead says that if you install xplorer2 NOT in the default location (program files) but elsewhere inside C:\ then folder icons are ok?

Can I simply copy the directory "xplorer2_ult" in an other location or is there a special instalation set-up ?

Copying will work, though it would be better to do that as a portable version (use INI). I just uninstalled the old one and reinstalled separately, exporting settings (and X2.LIC file) first.

Big thanks to Nikos and Kilmatead  a simple copy the directory "xplorer2_ult" solves the blue star issue. It looks like black magic !

Now I have a much more readable x2 screen : well spaced lines and yellow folder icons :D

Well, apparently Ult is doing something with icon extraction that Pro is not, since a Pro install to the default program files folder works without issue with spaced lines. (Both using out-of-the-box settings, modified only for line spacing.)

Sorry to disturb you again

x2 installed NOT in standard "program" directory works well but .. drag/drop to other program does not work.
Typically I use to select documents (pdf or jpg) in x2 and drag them into a mail (Thunderbird).
When the mouse is over the mail I can choose to insert the image or join it. With x2 out of "program" this does not happen.

Any idea ?

Were you running x2 (originally) as Admin? Does your shortcut to the "new" location share the same parameters (and admin-state) as the old one?

(Drag & Drop problems are usually due to programmes running at different [admin] elevations.)

I have no problem dragging png's into Thunderbird (from alt-location x2) as a test, however, unlike most people these days, I always run as an elevated user so I wouldn't normally see such problems.
