DeskRule preview

Post by science2003 »

Hi there,
I played a bit with DeskRule, which I have no experience with. In Xplorer2 I had as an ebook previewer the TotalCommand Plugin: slister.wlx64 that works with SumatraPDF.

This combination allows me to see ebook previews not on a full page but on a full-width page, enabling me to read the content more easily.
I tried to put in the same main folder of Deskrule, what I have for this plugin in xplorer2: TCPLUGINS.INI, TCPLUGIN Manager, and the folder "Plugins" with the slister.wlx64, and SumatraPDF inside. But with no avail.

My problem in trying DeskRule is that it always shows the selected ebook in the preview on a full page. I attempted to adopt the method I use with Xplorer2, i.e. show ebooks in full-width pages. Can TC plugins or other methods be used to achieve this feature?

Thanks

you can either uninstall the unwanted "full page" PDF previewer or for deskrule add the preview option QVOPT_TCFIRST (=16) which will offer the file first to any TC plugins. See the help file for more information (search for "Advanced settings tweaking" and add 16 to the existing number of binMiscOptions (preview)

Thanks, Nikos,
Eventually, I could implement your suggestion (a bit shortened for my limited expertise) and get the desired result. I try to learn all the other functions, more or less hidden from the GUI. One very simple in general I found a bit puzzling.

In the taskbar if I close let say the input "Name" (of the file) I could not find a intuitive way to re-make it active in the toolbar again.

sorry I don't understand
if you want to quickly jump to a particular deskrule box, press ALT key and the first letter of the box e.g. ALT_N to jump to name box
is that what you're asking?

Let me be clearer, since ALT_N does not make the filter input-box I intended reappear.
In the top toolbar there are few input-boxes, specifically for Name, Type, Modified date. Each input-box does have a "X" to remove it (which is active, if the "lock toolbars" is not selected).

Let say that I remove the input-box "Name". But the next time I need to show this input-box again in the toolbar. How do I reactivate it?
Normally, one does it with right-click on the toolbar and in the contextual menu there is the item listed, or there is a "customize..." item that opens a dialogue menu to select what to make visible or not. But in DeskRule the contextual menu shows only "Filter bar", "Arrange" and "Look toolbars".

Playing with it I now got the trick: double click in an empty space of the toolbar and select the item "Name" to make that input-box reappear.

A final point connected with this title (for future improvements), although not strictly concerning with it, is the following.
When one has "details thumbnails" view and preview window open there is no much real estate left. Cleverly the programme on the "Name" column shows the file name in more than one line, when such a file name is larger than the Name column. However if the file name is long but it does not contain spaces, such feature is broken, and the file name is shown truncated just in one line, while would be nicer that it is also shown in multilines within the Name column.

you can add and remove "rules" like name and other 300 properties as explained here: www.zabkat.com/deskrule/help.htm#search_plain
(also available pressing F1 within deskrule)

you can define sets of boxes for different uses, with that drop-down toolbar button that looks like "undo"
