FTP transfer speed

Post by stunley »

Hello.

I use Xplorer2's FTP capabilities infrequently so I've just noticed how much slower it is than a dedicated FTP client (in this case Filezilla).

I was uploading a fresh Wordpress installation and noticed the ETA to be 22 minutes, this decreased somewhat more than the time that actually passed, as the upload went on but the total time is still about 5 times longer than Filezilla takes.

My question is... is this just a limitation of Xplorer2's FTP capabilities (which is fine as I usually just use it for one or two files) or is perhaps some process of the file browser (e.g. slow at reading/writing permissions) slowing the transfer?

Thanks

what you see is really windows FTP "server" in action. I don't really recommend it at all because it is plain FTP and all your passwords etc are in the open. I use winscp myself. There is a shell extension that supposedly does SFTP with xplorer2 but i haven't tried it:

Thanks for the reply Nikos. I've no complaints with X2's FTP implementation. For the occasional file (logs, the odd php and an image or two) it's very convenient. I just thought a setting could help increase the speed. I'll check out winscp though. Cheers.
