I am often in explorer2 dual pane mode swapping JPG image files between folders - with the EXIF "Picture date" column in both panes (either by drag and drop, or cut and paste.) Lo and behold, (often but not always) a "picture date" materializes in the target folder when it was blank in the source folder. Seems often that a date has been copied in from the "Date created" field.
I have simulated this a few times and Irfan View confirms it's not just smoke and mirrors, Windows (in my case Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit) has written new EXIF data .. am reasonably sure it's a MS problem and not something nasty that xplorer2 is doing....
Is there any easy way of transferring files where this won't happen?
{{ Note: only happens when transferring between NTFS partitions: doesn't do it on transfers to network storage partitions like my WD Livebook which is a Linux ext4 partition ... power to the penguin }}
can you try if this date assignment happens when you drag drop (or paste) only? or does it also happen with robust copy F5?
it certainly isn't xplorer2 doing but I am curious. It could possibly be some plugin you have installed too
Have been looking for any kind of pattern to this and haven't found one yet.. I'm certainly not running any other programs except Irfan View when it happens and I. View doesn't modify EXIF data... will come back if I *can* make any sense of it....
