Remembering last selected file in folder

I have used XYplorer for several years and one of the best/my favorite features was that it would always remember the last file accessed in an open folder (which it would highlight in the standard windows dotted selection rectangle). This feature seems to not exist or not work very well in xplorer2, which seems to keep some of my last accessed files selected in some folders, sometimes. This features is very useful to me as I watch movies/shows on my computer and when watching shows, it's great to have this feature so I know what episode I last watched. While I find that media management software is great for managing media files (Musicbee for music, ACDSee for photos), I've never found a video management software that works well (they either have great management tools but limit playback capabilities or can playback anything but are useless in managing my collection), so being able to keep track of what I've recently watched in the file browser has been a great tool. But it seems moving to xplorer2 will require giving that up unless someone knows of a setting that I can play with. Thanks.

this feature exists in xplorer2 but most often if the last "file" was a folder (e.g the one you clicked to browse away), it will be selected instead of the last file you used

No luck. Every folder I have open in the program defaults to selecting the first file in the folder. Doesn't appear to be an option. Unfortunate - that was a really important feature for me in xyplorer.

if you have been in a folder previously in the current session, then it should be remembered. However once you quit/restart xplorer2, this information is reset
