I am making some progress with a feature many people are asking for, to rearrange items in large icon view with the mouse, rather than automatic sorting and arranging. This is how you arrange icons on your desktop for example
I still have my question marks about it, because in folders with thousands of items there's no point manually rearranging them. If you are using (lacking) this XP-style item rearranging in folders, can you tell me whether you do it on a permanent basis or you just use it to stack items in temporary groups -- or some other completely different use pattern?
I would think that you would especially want to manually sort folders with thousands of items. In particular, you would want to place a few items at the top of the list so that you could ignore the rest of the contents.
If I were to go to the trouble of sorting a folder, I would hope that the sort would be permanent. If I wanted a temporary sort, I would throw it into a scrap container and sort it there.
