Listary 6 search and xplorer2

Post by sanferno »

Hi,

Has anyone using Listary 6 found the reason why when you start typing on x2 to find certain folder/file nothing happens, but after a few seconds the filter bar in x2 gets activated?

Listary search bar appears if I double press Control key, but that wasn't needed with Listary 5. Any clue would be welcomed.

Cheers!

Yes, it makes sense. I simply asked as I thought something related with the filter bar was preventing Listaring to search for files.

I do, yes.

Yeah, Listary doesn't work with the most recent x2 versions. I notified Listary about it the other day and they said they'd look into it, they've heard from other users about the problem, and they'll try to restore the "type directly to search" functionality for x2. We'll see.

most probably the issue is the new crumbs bar, if you go back to addressbar you'd be fine

The issue must be elsewhere. I reverted back to the normal address bar and Listary still didn't search as I typed. I'll post if I hear anything from them.

It doesn´t work for me either. I contacted years ago, but no updates yet regarding version 6.
I have donwgraded to Listary 5 and it works normally with X2 latest version.

Yeah, I just downgraded too, to version 3.51--I couldn't find a portable version of Listary 5. But 3.51 works.

You may find version 5.00.2843 here: https://file.io/D9ph52YRFKG0
The software is free, so it's not piracy in this case.

Please read below the reasons given by the developers on why Listary 6 does not to work with Xplorer2 as Listary 5 does:

This behavior is not a bug; it’s actually by design. Here’s a detailed explanation:
  • Previous Version Support:
Earlier versions, such as Listary 5, supported the Windows list component (SysListView32), which allowed for direct search functionality not only in file manager but also in any application utilizing the list component.
image
  • Current Version Implementation:
SysListView32 is becoming less common in newer software, and globally monitoring it can cause stability issues. Thus, we decided to drop support for it in Listary 6.
However, the search functionality in file manager is essential. Therefore, we have implemented special integrations for most popular third-party file manager (including Xplorer2), requiring a double press Ctrl to activate the search function.
  • Why Windows File Explorer Does Not Require Double Press Ctrl but Other Third-Party Software Does:
We have made specific customizations to Windows File Explorer that allow Listary 6 to work without the need to press Ctrl twice.
These customizations are not feasible for every third-party file manager due to potential conflicts with their native search functionalities. Many third-party managers have their own integrated search functions, and additional customizations could lead to conflicts.

Interesting. Thanks sanferno. In any case, the older versions do what I need Listary to do.

Is there a reason why x2 can't have a built-in search-as-you-type function?
