List view issues: folders name truncated and general inconsistencies.

Post by GreenYogurt »

I have searched A LOT and read many other threads and yet have not find any post dealing with this precise situation, which seems unbelievable so i apologize in advance if the topic has already been discussed but i just couldn't find it anywhere.

I deal with a large music collection in LIST view. This is the preferred view because many album folders can be seen in a single glance, scrolled very fast and because i do not need any information from details view when browsing and editing my albums and tracks.

In WinExplorer once i set the main music folder to LIST view, then all subfolders will also be displayed in LIST and will remain this way.
Also in WinExplorer the list view spacing between columns will adapt to the length of the folders name, thus displaying the full album names every time, which is crucial for fast and easy visibility.
In x2 none of this works.
If i set the pane view to LIST for the main music folder, then navigate to 'This PC' and set it to TILES view, then when i return to the music folders they are no longer in LIST view but displayed in TILES as well. I can't imagine having to change view again and again every single time i navigate to a different directory.

NEXT: in LIST view the album folders names are shown with truncated names and there is hardly any space between columns, which appears to be not only clustered but completely inefficient for quick readability of the album names. The only way to get the full album names displayed is to shift to DETAILS view, which then shifts all subfolders accordingly. This means a constant shifting from LIST to DETAILS and back in order to see things properly, and that is not something i am willing to do... way to much botheration.
The same thing is true for the music files themselves in these album folders when in LIST view, the tracks names are truncated, the columns are clustered and there is no way to extend the column in order to show the entire name. That is not workable.
The LIST column should adapt to the length of the longest track file in each folder to avoid such issue, or there should be a way to resize the column to the user's preferred length and that setting should remain even after navigating back and forth to other directories.
For instance XYplorer has a Save/Remove function which allows the user to change each folder's style (both view and spacing) individually and set it just the way they want in a consistent manner.
Is there a simple way to do that in x2 as well, which i am not aware about?

Thanks in advance. I hope these issues can be solved as x2 is my favorite alternative to WinExplorer so far.

first of all are you using LIST or SMALL ICONS mode? The latter is almost unusable because it doesn't respect columns. I always use LIST mode
there is a setting for this mode called "max list width", which sets a limit for the max length filename. If you don't want names clipped, set it to 0
