Window Focus

Post by gnimor »

Hi,

I am using the professional version of xplorer² (4.5.0.1). My operating system is Windows 11 (Version 10.0.26100 Build 26100). Now I have recognized a strange behavior. When I delete a file from a folder within the xplorer application, the file will be deleted and the xplorer window moves to the background and the focus jumps to another window of my open applications. Is this something which can be fixed with a setting in the options?

Thanks in advance.

I can't reproduce that... is it normal delete to recycle bin or permanent deletion that causes the problem?
you can also try the latest xplorer2 version 6.1

Yes this is just a simple delete to recycle bin. It seems after deleting the item the explorer window loses the focus

I've had the same issue since reinstalling Windows 11 from a fresh format, and installing Xplorer2 version 4.5.0.1 x64.
Not sure if it's related to having replaced the Windows10 to 11 upgraded operating system with a fresh install.

Literally just pressing the delete button, then it takes focus away from xplorer2 to the last other window in use. Single files or folders, multiple selections, they all do the same. If you use the right-click context menu to delete files, it does not lose focus.

This is driving me nuts!

I have a license only for up to the version I have, it won't serve any purpose to try 6.1, unless you're saying that 4.5.0.1 will stay broken and the only real solution is to buy a newer version license?

as I said I can't find anything to fix because it works
try v6.1 just out of curiosity...
improvements and bugfixes only get into the latest version

ps do you see delete confirmations or does it go straight in the bin?

Came here to ask about/ say the same thing: if xplorer² is the only application open, delete works fine, but if any other application is open and I delete either from the button in the menu bar, the right-click menu, or the delete button on my keyboard, xplorer² moves behind that current application.

I tried both pro/lite versions on windows 11, with menu or ribbon UI, with or without delete confirmations, no problem!?

can you give me some picture what happens, are you deleting many or just one file, and do you see any delete confirmations, any delete progress dialog? When does xplorer2 decide to go back, at the end of it all?

even better if you can make a small video (using a tool like licecap) and post it here for us to see
thanks

You can either preview or download the below files:

Here's a webm of XPlorer losing focus when the keyboard delete button is pressed.
Loses Focus

Here's a webm of Xplorer2 not losing focus when the right-click context menu is used to process deletion of the file.
Doesn't Lose Focus

(Both files are hosted on IceDrive)

I have no idea to view any sort of log to see what happens in the background during the windows management process and why it would switch over to the "last known" application as the active/focused window. If you have any way to view this, I will gladly provide you with the logs, links, or whatever format the information can be conveyed with.

*EDIT* You can obviously see that I have no delete confirmation, it goes to the recycle bin regardless of the process followed. I made everything windowed to make the capture area smaller for portability, but the same happens when both or either window is full-screen or windowed.

x2 6.1.0.3 ultimate on Windows 11 24H2
Could not reproduce.
Some people walked about Windows 11 doing this last year and they mentioned to update display drivers and that it could be a 3rd party taskbar app causing the issue. These are wild guesses, I know, but just wanted to mention it.

Could it be a macro issue in x2? Some macro tied to the DEL key? Wild guess again, but just about anything in your system could be causing this. Does it happen with the original Windows Explorer app?

I will try on a different system and let you know if I can reproduce.

But I have v6.1.0.3 (the newest release) and you're running an older 4.x version which may not play as well with Windows 11.

a few others have reported this for the lite version, and it seems that turning on delete confirmations (a good thing in itself) from recycle bin properties "solves" the focus problem

To be fair:

Windows 11, over a year ago, in fact, started doing some really strange things in terms of window focus.

Around late 2023, IIRC, a lot of us (mainly reporting over at elevenforum) noticed that apps that were opened would pop up and immediately minimize to the taskbar. Notepad was one that did this almost constantly, but others were doing the same.

Moving into 2024, we also noticed that it became more random, but still frequent, but additionally, this behavior started happening in other scenarios - like deleting a file, editing a file, copying a file, and more.

I don't think there has been a true fix found for all of these collective window focus lost issues, but things like this "prompt when deleting" seem to make a difference.

I myself run into this one a lot with a particular file hash verification utility I use, HackCheck (v2.5.x), whereby I will double click on a hash file, and it is supposed to pop up and start verifying - only as soon as it does that, Windows, in its inherent omniscient mode, becomes omnipotent and minimizes the window, because, surely, I didn't actually want to run that and have it plastered on top of my File Manager window, right?

As I mentioned, this behavior has become more random and less "always occurs", but it is still frequent enough that it is still driving me batty to this day. And, as I mentioned, it is widespread across Windows 11, with numerous functions. And, it happens even when using the native Windows File Explorer, or third party FMs like Xplorer² as well as other (like OneCommander, TotalCommander, etc.)

I thought the problem was just for LITE version, are you saying it happens for PRO too?

I haven't seen it happen this iteration, but I did just 'cleanly' install Windows 11 24H2 a week ago.

But I would not be surprised to see it, at this point it happens so regularly with everything else, that I've become ... immune ... to this particular idiosyncracy.

Of course, there is also the fact that I manually use robust delete 99% of the time, so that may be a factor as well.
