As I read that AI is just a glorified parrot that sees eyes where there are none to find, it reminded me of this Sunday’s Peanuts strip (https://www.gocomics.com/peanuts). Marcie is going on her first backpacking trip, and thinks she should be looking for relics. She finds what she deems to be a piece of armor from the suit of an Inca warrior. Her educated guide tells her that it’s only a pull tab from a diet cola can…

So you actually upload your source code to other people's computers? Well, try mine next time! It won't reply any bullshit even.

FIY for those who read comments and not the main article, no I didn't give the source code to anyone, just a small test project

You described the current state of LLM and vibe coding pretty well. ChatGPT is useful for discussing ideas. It can write skeleton code pretty well, but when I ask it to write code for a problem, it often writes complicated, hard to understand code that doesn't work. It does better if you ask it for simple pseudo code for the problem. A fine programmer assistant who also can talk about anything I want.
It's amazing it exists. I'm thinking back to the first cars, end 1800, begin 1900, which were dangerous, slow, clumsy, uncomfortable but the first people driving had a blast using new tech. Many of my family and friends haven't used LLMs. Sure, LLMs are forcing education and workplace changes, it's not all good. But LLMs are here, learn to use them and exist with them.

I am not anti-LLM, I just wanted to check the claims made by some that "programmers are dead" because of AI, and clearly we aren't yet :)

The barbarians, however, are certainly in the garden...

Bring the diseased corpses to the trebuchet so we can lob them at the enemy and infect their demesnes...

I'll get the bastards even if you lads lost to assimilation won't help...
