Remote Share enumeration

Post by PieterS »

If I go to a remote machine, e.g. \\N193, I get:

\\N193\Data
\\N193\Msdnhlp
\\N193\Products
\\N193\Programs
\\N193\Sources
\\N193\vss
Printers

Would it be possible to drop the "\\N193\" prefix, so that you can use the keyboard to go to e.g. Sources by just typing 's'? This is how M$ shows it in Explorer, and it is VERY embarassing to admit, but I like that display more---just for this single small issue of course... If you implement this, it might be preferable to make e.g. Printers always appear at the end?

Thanks for the great piece of software!

Nikos,

Could you please share your thoughts on this? I know you're quite busy with tabs etc. (which I like already), but I'm a little annoyed with this small issue since I use x² to browse remote machines on a (almost) daily basis... If I didn't express my "problem" clearly, I'll give it a 2nd try if you want!

i can understand your grief but these columns are supplied by explorer so i don't control them

if you are in list mode however, then you get nice clean names without the \\pc\ prefix

sadly you can't save the view mode for virtual folders

You could try to intercept these names before sending them to the gui, but I understand this might cost quite some effort. Maybe if enough users ask for this...? (I guess it isn't the same as when I ask for it a 1000 times  )

Thanks for telling me why!
