Auto-complete?

Post by freeborn »

In the native file-manager if you are typing things in the address it supports auto completion, is there any possibility that this will be included in xplorer2?
Btw, for all those Greeks out there: Ti kanete paidarades? Bravo niko gia ena fobero programa!

avte xristos avestn!

x2 supports another sort of autocompletion with F1 key in most path-accepting boxes like the addressbar. See alpha.txt for more info

i am contemplating offering the "normal" autocompletion too but that conflicts with the second autocompletion type supported in x2, which fetches strings from the history portion using any seed string

yeah i can see how that could be a problem. Oh well, f1 is fine, it'll just take some getting used to, but then again, what doesn't? ;)

I don't mind hitting F1, but I'd rather not have to type the drive letter and colon backslash. I guess I'm spoiled by Mozilla which recognizes almost any part of the URL root and pops up a drop down list of items to select from.

For example, if I visited a site "http://www.download.com" ... I don't have to type in the "http://" part, or even the "www" part, I can just start typing "downl..." and voila! A drop down list will pop up with autocompletion entries to select from that will include "http://www.download.com"!

Just a suggestion...

BTW, thanks for a great file manager!

so how can you differentiate from c:\ vs d:\ etc?

as a generic remark note that you don't have to type full paths for F1 to work. Any partial path even \ or .. stuff will be autocompleted too!

to add to the remark of Nikos: autocompletion you mention is already in ! If you visited a folder before - let's say c:\program files\Xplorer2 - you just type 'xp' (without the quotes) in the address bar and hit the up-arrow, I bet it will show you the folder from the address bar history! (If it doesn't, just hit the up arrow again until you arrive at the right folder - it will cycle through all history text matching the characters you typed)

Isn't that what you are after?
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:

Totaly useful!

For some odd reason, I had it stuck in my head that it was down arrow or something other than up arrow...that's the one key combination I didn't try. This is in fact just what I was hoping for as I move around a lot within a complex folder structure dictated by research I do. The path names are killers! So a feature like this is a lifesaver :-)
