Beta bugs

Post by Jaykul »

Is this the appropriate place for problems regarding the beta builds?

The "find" feature doesn't work, at all. I suspect this is because I don't use the Explorer shell.

I can open Explorer (the filemanager) and use F3 or Ctrl-F to search, but basically, since you're now relying on explorer for searching for files, you have no search functionality when people are using third party shells.

this has been discussed before (with much passion).

What has been on the web-site as alpha57/BHTA59 is a cross between the last alpha and first beta.

A much evolved beta-into-shareware set of products should be forthcoming soon with real search engine. :D

just to let everyone in on the story, the beta season has officially started. Yesterday I sent the "lite" version to a legion of 50 hard-core testers for evaluation

Jaykul, the email that accompanied the beta announcement made it clear that this was the "lite" version, "pro" to follow when we have sorted out the licencing & protection issues
you have no search functionality when people are using third party shells.
this is a sad but unavoidable fact. The clear option is to buy the pro version in these cases!

If I try to launch the x2beta from inside alpha.59, the alpha version opens. This happens if I do it the other way around too, opening the alpha from inside the beta. This is just weird more than it is a bug :)

that's a "feature", discussed before -- wherein x² always looks for an open instance of itself, and runs a clone of that instead of a new instance :?

This is by design. X² has only one living instance at any time (this is the default: you can override this using a command line option '/P' so X² starts a new process - see also alpha.txt, line 709).
This means that starting another X² (doesn't matter if it is another version), it hooks up with the already running instance and just spawns a new window (a chip from the old block so to speak :) )

So just quit all instances (windows) from X² and then start the version you want or specify /P on the command line. For instance, when browsing the folder holding the executable you want and being focused on the Xplorer2.exe in that pane, you could type in the address bar:

> "$N" /P

This will execute the focused Xplorer2.exe with /P as comman line argument and you will get what you want.

[Edit] I see Fred has beat me to it (I had to type more ;) ) [end edit]
Dumb questions are the ones that are never asked :turn:
